Azezo is a short film showing what life is like in rural Ethiopia for children in need. It explores how schooling provides children with an opportunity to achieve their ambitions and breaks the work cycle of the destitute.
This film is a highlight of two short films produced for the charity.

Habtamu lives with his family in a rural area just outside Azezo, Ethiopia. Habtamu, one of 6 is a pupil at Andernet, a primary school a short distance from his home. Children transfer to a senior school at 13 and take exams at the age of 15 to determine whether or not they continue their education. With the lack of opportunity for those who arent educated, in comparison to the western world, children are required to work hard to achieve in their exams and with little expectation to do well that is harder than we can imagine.
In January of this year Freddie Reed visited Gondar, Ethiopia to produce a short film on the experience of growing up in this area. The film depicted the life of Habtamu, a 12 year old studying at a local primary school. During Easter Freddie returned to the region to continue the work with charity Broomwood in Ethiopia and was given the opportunity to revisit the family.

The video was put together for Broomwood in Ethiopia, which plans to build a primary school a few hundred metres away from Habtamu's house. Our world is very different to theirs, and this small documentation to show these differences through Habtamu's daily routine.

Habtamu stands behind his family outside their house. His mother, 38, and father, 45, both have poor health and have to travel regularly to the hospital.
Later today I will be releasing the short film I produced in Ethiopia. The film shows the daily routine of Habtamu, pictured in red above. This photograph is very similar to a shot in the video.
Aster, Banche's daughter sits in their first room. She doesnt attend school and instead stays at home with her mother.
Aster is the daughter of Banche's who works as a prostitute in Azezo, Ethiopia. Banche decided to stop Aster's education even though it is provided as a free service by the government. In this area alone there are 150 5-6 year olds who do not attend school.

Banche, aged 22 sits in her two room home in Azezo, where she works as a prostitute.
Day 5 in Ethiopia: Although a lot happened today, I thought I would focus on this particular story. Banche is a young mother who lives with her daughter, Aster aged 7. Aster stays at home with her mother and does not attend school. They live in very small accommodation within a community of women all doing the same work. Her income is supplemented by selling drinks from her home but this barely covers the rent of her property.
