A former model and all-around creative (who goes by one singular, elegant name) creates a Montreal moment of Zen: At age 15, Azamit left Eritrea and arrived in Montreal as an aspiring fashion designer. After graduating, she won a scholarship to study fibres and textiles in Paris, which led to an internship at Nina Ricci. But Montreal beckoned her back, and she returned to become a model, stylist and founder of Souk @ Sat, a yearly marketplace showcasing the best of contemporary Montreal designers. The 41-year-old self-described “creative curator” lives on the top floor of a 19th-century space in Old Montreal, and prefers simple design. Distressed hardwood floors and a cast-iron spiral staircase serve as focal points against an all-white canvas. “One minute I’m meeting with a designer, the next I’m launching a collection or styling on set or curating an event or installation, so when I come home, I don’t want to think about anything. I want my home to be a calming reposant.” Azamit shares her bright, white apartment with Tsuki Chichin, an Italian Greyhound turned Instagram sensation.
