“Stop making it sound like I’m dying.  I’m only graduating and probably still staying with my parents so I’ll be dropping by plenty to check in on you.”  

“No you can’t!” Lev blurted, then clapped a hand over his mouth.

“...why not?”

“It’s just...” Lev began fiddling with his fingers, shoulders hunching to make himself appear small.  It didn’t quite work.  “...well I don’t know if my tender heart could handle that.”  

The aggravation was back.  Why had he ever missed this?  He elbowed him lightly and grumbled,

“I don’t speak idiot.  Explain it better.”

“It’s just that... well...  Honestly I was going to save this for graduation but... I’ve really come to depend on you, Yaku-san.  And a part of me thought that you’d always be around.  But... you’re leaving, and I just thought... I really need to move on with my life and become my own man, you know?  Confess, be rejected, work through the heartbreak... I was getting all geared up for that!  But if you start coming back to visit us with your new... cool... college student aura... maybe you’d bring a girlfriend or something someday, like... I’ll never make any progress!  I’d never be able to stop pining and--why are you laughing?!”

Yaku couldn’t answer; he was in stitches.  He couldn’t really remember the last time he had laughed so hard.

“Yaku-san, you shouldn’t laugh at other people’s heartbreak, you know.”

“What heartbreak?” he wheezed, wiping at his tears.

“Mine!  Obviously!” Lev looked on the verge of tears himself.  

“How can you be heartbroken if you haven’t even confessed?”

“People can be plenty heartbroken without actually confessing!” Lev stomped his feet.  “Especially when they know the answer.  Am I wrong?!”

“It’s not that you’re wrong, exactly, you’re just extremely not right.”

“...Yaku-san, please explain that better!”
