“Well done, Ben” Rook commented as he approached the teenager

A set of blue eyes landed upon him and Ben smiled with a warmth reserved for his partner

“Thanks. You weren’t so bad yourself”

“High praise indeed, coming from the great Ben Tennyson” he winked playfully, making his way toward his truck, Ben following instantly

“Praise reserved for you” he chimed back

Ben climbed into the front of the truck and waited patiently as Rook removed his proto-armor for the day, climbing into the front seat in just a black muscle-shirt and blue jeans, a pair of blue converse shoes on his feet. Ben smiled

“Nice shoes”

Rook glanced down and smirked

“Hush” he replied, starting the truck and pulling away from the curb “they only had blue or green. I have green fur. I did not wish to have green shoes as well”

Ben was silent for a moment before smiling widely

“Can we go to Mr. Gyro?” He asked eagerly

Rook raised a brow

“We are there yesterday”

Ben blinked, not understanding how this was a problem whatsoever

“So?” He prompted when the alien didn’t continue

“So you still wish to eat there again?” Ben nodded his head enthusiastically and Rook chuckled “very well” he nodded

He pulled into a parking space at the next Mr. Gyro they spotted and Ben eagerly climbed out of the car, Rook getting out more slowly. The teenager bounded forward as soon as Rook was fully out of the vehicle, barely giving Rook enough time to close the door before his hand was grabbed and he was dragged toward the building.

“You know what I like” he told his partner when they entered the building, feeling his cheeks warm when he realized his hand was still being held by Ben. “I will go get us a table”

“Okay” he nodded, releasing the aliens hand and allowing him to wander away

Ben watched him go, wondering why his heart was beating so fast and why his hand felt warm and pleasantly tingly. He shrugged it off

“I must be getting sick” he muttered

“Ben look out!” Rook cried, yanking the brunette out of the road just as a car came whizzing past. Ben, face crushed into Rook’s chest, made a noise of alarm as he saw the car speed past in his peripheral vision. Time ticked past, and Ben spoke

“Uh, Rook? You can let me go now”

“Oh!” He released him and stepped back “I apologize” he smiled sheepishly

Ben’s fingers stopped their movements and he raised a brow

“I feel warm and fuzzy” he states bluntly

“You /are/ a cat, Rook” he replied, turning his attention to his wrap, picking it up in his free hand

“No” he shook his head, frustration clear in his tone “I mean I am warm and fuzzy about /you/”

Ben dropped the wrap.

Wide blue eyes were turned upon the Revonnahgander, cheeks flushing at the intensity of his gaze

“What do you mean?” He managed to ask

“I do not know” he huffed “I want to…” He trailed off

“What?” He breathed, heart hammering in his chest

“I want to kiss you” he stated bluntly, gaze searching Ben’s

Ben’s breathing all but stopped, heart slamming like a jackhammer in his chest. He swallowed thickly and it took him a moment to be able to form a response

“Then do it”

Rook’s hands rose from the table and he cupped Ben’s cheeks, bringing the teenager closer to him. The movement was slow, at first, giving Ben a chance to back out, however as soon as the distance between their lips was barely a centimetre Rook lurched forward and captured Ben’s lips with his. The teenager, unsure what to do with his hands, lifted them to cover Rook’s as he pressed back. Their lips melded together perfectly, and Ben was vaguely disappointed that they hadn’t done this sooner.

When they parted for air, Ben met Rook’s gaze, cheeks red and lips slightly parted as he panted for air, and the Revonnahgander smiled warmly. Ben smiled back, reaching out and taking one of Rook’s hands

“Rook” he breathed “I think I love you”
