i know we almost died just now,  but…   am i the only one who’s hungry ?     @avoleuse​,   sydney kaiser.   askbox temporarily closed  /  currently not accepting.

                    there’s a taste of copper on the tip of a tongue,   lungs scorched by the fitful breaths of air ――   and whatever thought he’s held before the explosion,   it escapes him now :   mind numbed by the ringing and the reflection of his own petrified expression in her eyes.   rubble drops to the ground,   fragments of stone and steel and wood,   hovering around him like ghosts of what could have been :   death.   certain death.  the realisation that she lives precedes the acknowledgement of his own survival,   and wraps its lanky fingers around his throat.   she could have died.   it repeats itself with an eerily panicking voice,   growing in volume until it suffocates every other observation.   how many recruits are dead ?   how many injured ?   and :   when did the other assets become an afterthought ?   his arms rise from the tarmac littered with broken glass,   cuts like silent indicters on the back of his hand where he shielded her :   all those months attempting to control it without the necessary complementation,   all those relapses begging syd to take the pressure off him …   and now he watches with wide eyes how she wiggles free from his grasp and dusts off her hands.   the heat of a burning compound claws into his back and there’s a lump in his throat,   solidifying the more he watches her seeming nonchalance.   it could have killed her.   it must have killed someone.   that wasn’t part of the mission.

❛ ... OUCH. ❜ The reaction is delayed after the teeth pinch her nose. She stops mid-lick on her ice cream, vanilla sloshing on her tongue. It looks like a snow covered landscape. It’s a lie, of course, to say that the bite hurt her. But Diana curls her nose and tilts her head to the side, regardless.

dangerous  is  it  to  live  with  such  dire  sense  of  longing.   the  line  which  they  walk  is  unbalanced,   threatening  to  crumble  beneath  their  feet  with  every  further  step  which  is  taken.   what  had,   as  she  thought,   started  off  as  something  more  playful     ─      an  operation  based  solely  on  drawing  the  awkward  display  of  discomfort  from  her     ─    had  begun  to  warp  into  something  entirely  different.   still,   yasemin  has  no  true  indication  of  where  she  actually  stands  with  @avoleuse​  and  she  would  be  lying  to  herself  if  she  said  it  had  no  certain  effect  on  her.   the  long  hours  of  night  which  pass  as  particularly  decelerated  rate  are  filled  with  thoughts  of  her;     she  seeks  her  out  everywhere  she  goes,   in  every  crowd,   in  every  room    .  .  .     there  is  something  about  the  way  she  looks  at  her  in  knowing  manner  that  sets  her  stomach  alight.    and  maybe  this  was  normal,   how  would  she  know?   she’d  never  gotten  involved  with  another  person  previously.   but  it’s  the  not  knowing  that  slowly  rots  away  in  her.

                    he’s holding a ceramic mug in his left hand and a file folder in the other, staring down at the pages inside, examining the inner workings to decide what to put in his final report of the evening. it’s the night before his day off and though derek is eager to get out of quantico, he knew he had to finish what he started. if he was someone far less alert, he woudln’t have heard someone running towards him. eyes shoot up just when sydney begins to leap, morgan throwing the file onto a nearby desk and catching her in his arms with little effort.

scoff is given, the man staring down at the woman with a smile just hitting the corner of his lips. ‘ you better be glad this cup was empty, sweetheart, or you would’ve had a mess t’clean up, ’ giving a lighthearted chuckle, derek places sydney on the desk beside him, on top of the file he needed to work on. ‘ if that’s your way of sayin’ it’s time to go, i’m right there with you. but i gotta finish this first, you know that, ’     @avoleuse​.

                             the   characteristics   of   his   lifestyle   hadn’t   exactly   fostered   excellent   teamwork   skills.      could   be   a   lack   of   trust   or   interest,   but   despite   efforts   he   always   seemed   to   fall   short.      a   prophecy   of   sorts   :   he   was   better   at   being   alone,   almost   destined   to   be.      lately,   against   all   reasoning,   he   tried   to   make   it   work   –   asked   for   it.      guilty   need   to   contradict   fate   prompted   the   offer   to   play   lookout,   simple   task   of   jumping   unseen   to   confirm   they   were   alone.      well   within   his   minimal   skillset.      CUE   :   the   upcoming   oversight,   created   by   equal   parts   overconfidence   &   inexperience;    such   a   deadly   union.      “  i   told   you,   this   place   is   empty.      i   think   i   know   how   to   handle   a   glorified   game   of   hide   and   s –  ”
