The first leg jumping across the Pacific Puddle, hurling through the dark, racing the sun to see who will get to Asia first.
Flight Paths, Feelings, and the Quest for the Perfect Route to Japan, Part 1
Booking the Flight: Or, How Two Very Different Travelers Try to Get to Japan I want to shift gears a little from my last few posts and talk about something lighter: actually, making travel arrangements. So far, I’ve been talking about some pretty heavy stuff — retirement, dreams, and the emotional weight of building a rich life — but I haven’t talked much about the travel part. Ironic,…
I'm very excited. Soon, I get to tick off a big bucket list item as an aviation nerd, and that's to fly on a 747-400 <33
I've flown on a 747-8, which is the much more recent variant of the 747 series, but the 400 is much older and a very rare aircraft to see floating around these days, especially as a passenger jet as they're quickly being phased out and replaced with the A350 and the 787.
I love how all three commands (V1, rotate, and positive climb) are clearly shown in this video… ❤️

Some simple aviation terminology
V1 (Velocity 1)- aircraft has reached the maximum speed, and MUST take off even if there has been an engine failure, or another error. Basically “the point of no return” in aviation
Rotate- a command used immediately after V1 for the captain and first officer to pull back the yoke* to initiate takeoff
Positive climb- an indication that it is safe to stow away the landing gear after the aircraft has reached a certain elevation
*newer airplanes such as Airbusses have toggle sticks, not yokes
Are all the model planes in Clark’s bedroom a Clark thing or a David Cornswet thing? Or maybe both because I think David might actually be Superman 😂 just curious 💁🏻♀️ sincerely life long aviation hyper-focuser.
Not now sweetie, mommy is reading NTSB crash reports.
