rambling about shipping and weird anti behavior i've noticed from people who like hashtag problematic ships
the thing is that objectively there's nothing wrong with only liking/approaching samifer from a sam whump enjoyer perspective, if your whole thing is that you love sam getting busted and you don't care much who's doing it then hell yeah brother all the power to you. and on the other hand if you want to go I Do Not See It about all the blatantly awful post-s5 relationship and write canon divergent-y romantic stuff then, again, hell yeah brother i'm glad you're having a great time. these are both completely valid and understandable approaches and i enjoy both. so it genuinely really annoys me when people will insist that one or the other is like. wrong.
like liv and i were talking about wincest a while back and we agreed that it's obnoxious when ppl act like you can only interpret it in a nasty fucked up way because we both like that but we also like non-fucked up wincest too, and we agreed that lowkey it's anti-lite behavior to act like you can only interpret this incest relationship as non/dubconny and extremely unhealthy and messed up, bc you're kinda still capitulating to the idea that writing gross stuff is fine as long as you're not "romanticizing" it when like. literally write whatever you want. who cares. bc it's fine if you don't like domestic/cute/happy/consensual wincest but it's annoying to be on a high horse about it and acting like you're on some elevated level of literary analysis just bc you only like them when they're hurting each other. like if that's just your kink then own it lmao. also side note it is SO fun to have an irl friend to gossip with <3
so the same goes for samifer for the most part. it just bugs me personally when people who have a preference or a kink act like it makes them a better understander of the text when it's like......yeah anyone with eyes can tell it's a messed-up premise and there's always going to be a level of weirdness, unless you're writing a total au with absolutely no weirdness at all (which is something i personally dislike but i'm not the arbiter of what makes a good fic, literally write whatever you want). someone who doesn't want to write abusive brutal noncon isn't stupid or an "abuse apologist" (which is also anti-lite behavior, thinking someone's fanfic preference defines their behavior irl, btw), they just don't like thinking of them that way. there are really great fics i love a lot that don't have any elements of nonconsent that still capture the characters well.
ig what i'm getting at is as with most things it sucks to act like your opinions and preferences are thee best and most enlightened and most relevant takes on a relationship. and i understand the backlash against YEARS of dumbassery within fandom spaces that perhaps encourages more dark content, and i'm GLAD for that, i'm GLAD i'm among peers in a space where dark content is not only accepted but encouraged. but it's not like.....immature or ignorant or wrong to be like "i'm going to write this unhealthy relationship as healthy because it personally makes me happy". as with most things in fandom, literally just block the people making art you don't like and you will have a better time. and i will write my men kissing cutely. because i can
