Annie Zhao (Li Jun Li) — born 1971, passed in 2005 at 34 years old

Marketing Manager at a five-star hotel in Oahu, Hawaii. Hooked up with Avery’s dad while he was there attending a work conference. Bit of a whirlwind romance. They did LDR for a while but she broke it off with him when she realized she was pregnant. Tragically passed in a convenience store robbery while trying to deescalate it. A local hero but at what cost. 😔

Tommy Zhao (Donnie Yen) — born 1966, passed in 2020 at 56 years old

An openly gay rock star in the 80s, playing lead guitar for a band called The Crystal Emotion. He took Avery in and raised her after her mom passed away in 2005. Not the most traditional parental figure given his occupation and the lifestyle that came with it, but he loved her a lot and made sure she had a happy life. He passed away from kidney failure in early 2020.

Carson Lake (Nathan Fillion) — born 1968, currently 54

Just some dude tbh. Does app development for a tech company in New York. Not married. Only person he ever really loved was Avery’s mom. Doesn’t get why she broke up with him out of the blue. Was definitely planning to fly back to Hawaii and propose before it happened.

every weekend, avery goes into town and buys a new record to add to her collection (she usually extends an invitation for nate to join if he feels like it)
