Letters We Write
The sequel to @lookitsfanfiction's fanfiction Let's Pause the War For Just A Moment. It suck because I was rushing but it's pretty good. And it's kind of angsty.
Dear Janette,
I hope this letter finds you well, I miss you terribly and wish to be in your arms once more, and feel your warm lips against mine.
I digress, work over here has been scarce for women, I had to take up working as a nurse and there's a chance I could be laid off anytime now. They threw a fit when they found out my family was jewish so I know that if some girl comes along and asks for work I'll be gone in a heartbeat. On top of that my mother and sister-in-law are miserable, they worry about my father and brother constantly, an when worry turns into anger they pour it out on me. They've been asking when I'm going to get married and when I'm gonna look for a man and my answer is always "I'm looking." I wish I could tell them about us..but I know my mother would disown me the minute I tell her.
I guess we'll have to wait until times get better.
Until then my love, I will keep you in my thoughts, Avery
~~~
My Dearest Avery,
The war has been tough, right now I am undercover working as a nurse on enemy lines. So far we have found out little of what they plan to do, but it has something to do with a bomb however. But enough about this sick war, I hate war and all the death that it brings, I miss you so, and I miss your touches as well. I miss your small nose and smooth legs, but I especially miss you warm wet lips that would tenderly grace mine when we kiss. And I promise when this war is over we'll head out of the city and live on my daddy's old farm where nothing can touch us.
As for nursing I know how you feel. Being black means I'm lesser than dirt to these men, and as soon as some pretty white girl walks in looking for a job they'll definitely kick me to the streets. Literally. But I doubt that there's women looking for a job right now. They're either too sick, too spoiled, or too dead to be hired.
This world is so crule, atleast I have you my darling.
Your wife, Janette
Avery held the note close, tears in her eyes as she let out a weak laugh, Jane was always an affectionate lover. Always managing to make her weak with every letter she sent. Wiping her eyes she looked at her swollen belly, a tsunami of guilt washing over her body. How was she gonna explain a child to Jane when she came back from the war, and how was she gonna explain the notes to Jason?
