He blinks once, then twice, slowly lifting his book and pulling one headphone off. He hadn’t heard her moving, he hadn’t even noticed her climb onto the couch he was sprawled across, but the fact Kells had just cuddled up to him did yank him sharply back into reality.
He closes the book, balancing it on the back of the couch and pulls his headphones off fully.“…What’s wrong Pearl?”
“Nothing,” the much smaller creature mutters, unhelpfully, into his side. Her words slur, just slightly, as she continues; clearly she’s drowsy and well on her way to sleep. “‘S cold. Can’t sleep.” Too tired to construct a respectable sentence.
A sleepy curtain of white lashes lifts, just enough, and she scoots up a bit more to rest her head on his shoulder. “What are you reading... better be good.” Good enough to keep you from being my personal heater for the evening, she means.
“Know, I could teach you w...” her sentence is halted by a yawn, “...what those books don’t.” ...Okay, there wasn’t much of a translation for that. What was she even trying to say?
