Clear, multi-directional communication and dialogue are important factors if you want to lead a successful change initiative. A mix of programmatic (top-down) as well as participatory (active involvement at all levels) styles of communication are important. • The ability for all participants to come together and experiment with the change process, and share lessons about what worked and what doesn’t, increases the social bonds between co-workers and improves the likelihood of successful change. • Ongoing communication between leadership and employees about context or change to processes is important. Employees gain better understanding when they are actively allowed to participate in these discussions so they can seek clarity and voice concerns. • Finally, recognition by leadership of success along the change process contributes to self-efficacy which, in turn, leads to increased initiative, pro-social behaviour and higher levels of work performance. • Source: Rich Parsells. 2017.
