It's our national bird! THE EMU. "Pronounced E-mew not E-moo"
The Emu is quite widespread so among more than 250 indiginous languages, I went with the name used by traditional owners of my area, The Dharug people - The Mariong.
This emu in particular was in the Kangaroo petting area and was quite open to allowing pets while he snacked on Kangaroo pellets. Their feathers are quite odd in texture! I'd describe it as bristles rather than feathers.
Shoutout to the Great Barred Frog for being rotund and sweet, please keep in mind they exist as an aussie because they sit upright like canetoads on the roadside at night quq
Edit* call out to me for not noticing my flash was on when I took a picture quq
