I dislike christmas. I don't celebrate it because I'm not a christian, I'm not European, I don't vibe with consumerism, and celebrating the aesthetics of northern-European winter at the height of Australian summer is so utterly gauche. It's all just more of that bullshit from those english "Acclimatisation Societies" of yesteryear, and it's unbearably cringe that we're still clinging onto that. We should treat this situation like how we do with every other invasive species else they fucked up our country with, and give Santa's reindeer carrots laced with 1080. Probably put some into Santa's milk and cookies too, for good measure.
So sick of it being inescapably shoved in my face at all times in public. Good god I hate christmas carols.

I feel like the USA and Australia get along because they're both predominately White Anglophone continent spanning imperial powerhouses in their respective corners of the world. Both built on the backs of the exploited labor, enslavement and genocide of Black people, both guilty of the systematic genocides of numerous Indigenous peoples AND both have a penchant of praising their Colonizer ancestors who were "explorers and tamers" of the "wild frontiers" and all other wildly exaggerated Colonial myths that distill noxious patriotism and nationalism in both countries.
The biggest differences are just that Australia has less people, some form of universal healthcare (that's still entrenched with medical racism regardless) and gun control and a weaker hold and influence on international pop culture (y'all just can't seem to compete with the Brits and Americans in that regard.)
Oh and not to forget they love meddling in the affairs (i.e. the entirety of Latin America for the US and the entirety of Melanesia for Australia) of other lands due to their neoliberal colonial mindsets.
Also, honorable mentions to both Canada and New Zealand, the lovely neoliberal countries that praise themselves for being the relatively more "tolerant" Colonial Lite versions of their respective international neighbors. "Better" government services and "better" healthcare still can't hide the stench of your colonizer past (AND present.)
