For many reasons, I will never be allowed to write a Batman run. But if I was, I would immediately declare that Gotham is in Australia. Partly because it explains why no one’s shot the Joker (gun control laws that came in after Port Arthur were dramatically tightened and exceptions slashed after the murder of the Wayne parents), partly because the city of Naarm/Melbourne was founded by and very briefly named after, a guy named John Batman.
