Blue whales are the largest animals that have ever lived on Earth, bigger even than the largest dinosaurs. Despite this, the whales weren't "discovered" in Australian waters until about 20 years ago. Globally, blue whales were reduced to 3 per cent of their original population size through whaling. Today, there are thought to be 10,000–25,000 blue whales worldwide, 1500 of them being the pygmy blues around Australia. 📸 @snotbot
