alright, so, here’s what’s happening with the federal election for anyone who’s confused:
Liberal has won 65 seats, Labor has won 67.
Either party could still technically win a majority government if they get enough of the seats in doubt (they have to reach 76) but Antony Green, an election analyst, believes Liberal are far more likely to gain more of the seats, and everyone’s thinking it’s going to end up a hung parliament.
There’s no more counting until Tuesday, so we’re not gonna know for a few days
A hung parliament means neither party can pass laws without support from the minor parties and independents. If it does become a hung parliament, one of two things could happen:
A formal coalition could occur, which means one of the two main parties gets enough support from the minor parties to form a minority government, and they would basically work as normal, or
The governing party (most likely to be Liberal, but we’ll see) will continue to have to please the other parties to get anything passed
If you wanna know more about how this all works, I definitely recommend the ABC app or website; they’re very informed and up to date, and they explain things simply. You could also look up the 2010 election with Gillard, where it came down to some crossbenchers to decide who would govern.
