I watched a documentary once about the space-time continuum. A physicist was trying to explain that time is not linear, even though human beings experience it that way. He used the example of when we travel from one place to another, how when we arrive in a foreign city we believe that our home still exists, even though we can't see it or feel it or be in it. He said the past is like that: that it exists alongside the present. Like another city, another room. A locked room.
