I have been recently seeing and engaging with things relating to Sonic and my mind is aflutter with ideas. Like a maelstrom of thoughts and I so desperately need to put it to words lest my mind use Explosion. Right, some of my personal Sonic the Hedgehog headcanons and stuff.
I personally dislike the notion of Sonic being in any romantic relationship. My reason is that because Sonic values freedom and being one with the wind, the idea of a relationship feels like something that inherently would anchor him down, which is not something he wants. He is a free spirit. He values his time by himself. Plus, Sonic doesn't read as the kind of being who would or could truly express any level of romantic affection/love without it feeling forced. I must however emphasize that this doesn't mean I look down on people who do ship him with anyone, you do you mate. I just don't at this stage of my life.
Speaking of his alone time, while Sonic is fully capable of talking and socializing with people, I have seen aspects of him that make me interpret him as an introvert. He does have friends and cares for them, but he also likes to go out and about for probably weeks or so at a time. Just being out there exploring new sights, basking in nature, trying some tasty grub.
I hate the interpretations of Sonic being a motor mouth wisecracker. Nah, I more adore the idea of Sonic being a listener who when given the chance, is not afraid to speak his mind. He has confidence in himself and doesn't feel the need to say much about himself. He is more into hearing what others have to say.
I have recently come to discover a love for Honey the Cat thanks to a model swap mod I have in Sonic Racing Crossworlds!
So, Honey the Cat... right! Looked up what little information there is of her interpretation from the Archie stuff and then on top of this blog post I read, I like to believe that she is a resident of the Sol Dimension. As the Jester brought up, I think her being a counterpart to Amy would a be a fun way for her to play off of Blaze, the counterpart to Sonic! What I have thought is that like in Archie, she is a fashion diva and CEO of her own fashion company. Her company managed to snag a deal with the Sol Empire, her getting to personally design the garments for Blaze, the Sol Monarch. At that point, her interactions were purely for her own personal gain. She was courteous with Blaze, but saw the young cat as a means to hugely boost the reputation and awareness of her company.
I think as they interact more, they would slowly develop an actual friendship, particularly after the events of Sonic Rush. Before then, Blaze was very reserved with her interactions with Honey. Brief and curt with her words, she would slowly start to open up more with her interactions with the CEO. Considering her time as a CEO, I think Honey would catch on to this change in demeanor and see this as an opportunity for her to pounce on this for her own benefit. However, as Blaze opens up more, Honey can't help but start developing this admiration at seeing this change in Blaze. The quiet girl she knew was now chipping away to reveal a radiant, warm individual. While yes, her partnership with the Sol Empire was still a thing of importance, that was starting to become second fiddle to her wanting to see this young girl bloom. She found Blaze precious and did what she could to help her get more comfortable with socializing and herself.
I like to think beyond tea time at the royal palace, they would go out to explore, see the sights, catch a film, attend events. Just get Blaze to open up even further with others.
Honey is still a fighter, using martial arts as not only a means for her to relax after an especially stressful day with her job, but as something she enjoys doing. Despite her high-end fashion, she isn't above getting into a tussle for fun. Hecc, the materials she uses for her branded clothing is meant to be fully comfortable for just about any situation!
I like to think Honey spars with Blaze. She does this as a way to help Blaze learn to use these sparring sessions as a means for the monarch to decompress from her royal duties and for Blaze to even further her abilities and control over her pyrokinesis. While nervous at first, Blaze grows to enjoy these spars and see the value in them that Honey already had seen.
At the time of typing this, I just learned Blaze is 14. I figured she was a teen like most of the cast, but didn't realize she was younger than Sonic. If anything, I think this can help further a distinction about the aspect of her friendship with Honey and vice versa. So you know how Amy is the younger between her and Sonic and she has romantic feelings for him? And from what I can tell, Honey has no confirmed age. But from the fact she is the CEO of her own company, I would like to believe she is at least a young adult above 18. What I like to think is that her friendship with Blaze is almost like familial. Like an older sister helping out her younger sister. Be a fun way to distinct things between the hedgehogs of the Chaos Dimension with the cats of the Sol Dimension. :D
Do ya'll remember Lyric? The snake dude from Sonic Boom? Yeah, thanks to a mod in Sonic Racing Crossworlds and my brain getting active creatively about him and I got an idea.
The idea that floated in my head is 'what if Lyric was in the main series? What would he be like without his original lore from Sonic Boom?' What I have thought is that he is an extraordinarily gifted engineer in the field of cybernetics and prosthetics in a civilian context. His mind and ways with robotics can have him rival the likes of Tails, Eggman, and such.
Okay, at the time of writing this, I was wondering if the Sonic series has ever had any snake characters. And turns out in Archie there have been! From little there is one of them appeared to be a snake with arms and another being a snake who would get into a mechanized suit to give himself arms and legs. So a mixed bag. Honestly... I want to go with the idea that Lyric would still be a limbless lifeform.
In his youth, he showed signs of incredible intelligence. Even without limbs, he would find a way to make use of his tail and maw in order to tinker with stuff, study it, and sate his desire to learn. One day, someone would observe Lyric and see something within the young serpent. Lyric's tenacity, his hunger for knowledge and his interest in electronics touched the individual. Themself being knowledgeable in such stuff, they would take Lyric under their wing. Now I must stress that I personally like to believe in the current day, Lyric would be basically a near middle-aged adult. Significantly older than most of the cast, but a bit younger than Eggman. So at this time, electronics and tech... well honestly kind hard to say how advanced it would have been considering the whole Project Shadow thing, the ARK, and G.U.N....
For the sake of things, perhaps military folks back than had more access to such advanced resources while tech for most civilians was still younger in some regards... perhaps Lyric was born in a place where technology was not as insane. So this now tutor to Lyric helped the young serpent by first gifting him with what would be his first 'enhancement': a mechanical claw at the end of his tail. Being able to connect to some degree with his nervous system, Lyric effectively had a hand for the first time in his life! He could more meticulously tinker with things, do things he never could do! He was elated and was eager to learn more under his teacher.
As time would go on, Lyric would learn more and more at a surprisingly fast speed. His tutor was blown away by how quickly Lyric learned and created things. They knew there was something special about this kid, a gifted mind being held back by his body and circumstances. Just as eager as Lyric was to learning and crafting electronics, Lyric's mentor was excited to see how far Lyric could go. However, they would never get to see how far Lyric could go as they would eventually pass away by the time Lyric reached adulthood.
Mournful of the death of his mentor, Lyric would further hone his craft not only for himself, but to honor the legacy of his mentor in the hopes that he would match them, unaware that he had already done so.
Lyric's skills would eventually see him being able to further enhance himself by giving him a set of mechanical arms to effectively give himself 3 hands in which to further his research and projects.
As a means to get funds for his research and also honor his mentor, Lyric would effectively become a Prosthetist. While this did require him to divulge some of his time to learning of the biological anatomy of lifeforms and thus take time away from his precious research and tech, he saw this as not only a means to an end, but as a new challenge for him to overcome. Perhaps he could also use this as a chance to further aspects he had been hypothesizing about himself and his prosthetics.
While slow at first, his effectively day career as a Prosthetist would see him earn the admiration and respect of his clients. This attention that he had not really ever been exposed to... was something he would grow to actually enjoy. Others getting to see his brilliance on display, it made him prideful in himself.
As time went on and business went smoothly, Lyric would come to finalize a more solid goal in life: to use technology to better the lives of all lifeforms. To him, had it not been for technology, he would never had the chance to get to where he was, allow his mind to flourish.
However, fate would deal a cruel hand when Lyric would come to learn he had developed a dangerous viral illness: Inclusion body Disease . To Lyric's horror... he was aware no one was capable of beating back this ailment. While initially devastating and enraging him to no end, his mind would fester on a single thought: his flesh... what made him organic was what was holding him back.
By this point in his life, well and truly a near middle aged adult, Lyric had few if any friends. The only real companion he had was actually an android assistant he had constructed years earlier that he had been upgrading over time. From merely a robot that would follow simple commands to now a droid with full blown artificial intelligence, Lyric would put his life on the line in a last ditch effort. After brainstorming, running simulations, and using the vast knowledge of cybernetics and biology he possessed, he would attempt to effectively make himself into a cyborg to save his life, his mind. He had a goal and he would not allow his body to put an end to it before he could realize that goal.
After making sure his instructions were clear, Lyric would have his android perform the needed surgery. After agonizing days of surgery, recovery, observations and further refinement, Lyric would successfully have the needed cybernetics grafted into his body. While successful, he would discover these cybernetics were only holding back the virus in him for now. He would survive... but for how long? When could this virus mutate and attack the other parts of his body? Worst of all, his brain.
No, what Lyric would believe is that he needed to go beyond being a cyborg. He needed to undergo full conversion from organic to robotics. Then... no virus, no bacteria... nothing organic could ever threaten him and his goals.
However, his resources were running thin. Not only that, but an invasion of robots, those belonging to the madman Dr. Eggman, were on the doorstep of his lab and the city he stationed his business in. Despite his cybernetics and his android... they were not built for combat. And while he did feel bad for the civilians, he prioritized his own survival above all. It would be tough in the following months as Eggman nearly conquered world, but Lyric and his android managed to survive and evade the Eggman Empire long enough for the Resistance to finally stop madman.
His lab pillaged, Lyric was beyond furious. However, he was well aware the idea of revenge to be foolish and too risky. He needed to preserve his mind. No... if anything, his time evading Eggman's forces made him realize that right in front of him laid the potential for him to solve his resources problem.
No, I don't think Lyric would partner with Eggman. He has been around long enough to be aware of the exploits of the madman. Even if he could find a way to manipulate Eggman, there are still too many risks at play. What he wants to do is figure out how and where Eggman gets his resources for his tech. If he could get it, he would be able to finalize his conversion.
Ok, I waffled on for a while, but as I was typing and looking, I got excited with this pitch of an idea for Lyric. AH, I just think it is really cool and taking the idea of technology in a different direction compared to Eggman.
What would Lyric's personality be like? I figure that unlike his Boom counterpart, he has the ability to show empathy. But he is no goody goody nor is he a villain. While he can be self-centered and quite prideful in himself considering all he managed to accomplish after the help he had gotten from his mentor, he does possess a noble goal. Like his Boom counterpart, he has a love for technology and shows disgust to organics. But unlike his OG version, this Lyric's hatred of organics is more so towards himself because of the viral infection he has. Because he set himself on this goal of using technology to better the lives of others, just as it had done for him and his clients up until his diagnoses, he is livid at his organic limitations.
This Lyric is not bent on taking over the world or wiping out all organic life. He just wants others to see the wonders of technology and how it can benefit them and their lives for the better.
What would Lyric think of the resident smart guys Tails and Eggman? Tails, I think Lyric would show respect for him. In a sense, he would see his younger self in the young fox. While his android had suggested the idea of perhaps seeing if Tails could aid in terms of his desire to fully convert himself, Lyric rebutted this as he saw Tails' expertise as an engineer more in the field of automotives and machines. Eggman, he generally doesn't like. He has begrudging respect for his abilities with robotics. And while in his most desperate thoughts he thought a deal with Eggman could easily net him what he needed, he realized there is no way Eggman would do something without it benefitting him. After effectively the events of Forces, Lyric would come to have a deep hatred for the man.
As of now, I have no name for Lyric's android, but will in time. At the very least, I like to think that Lyric overtime went from seeing this creation as just a robot to effectively a progeny of his own. A friend in a way or child. Whichever.
Oh bloody hell, it is getting late and I need to sleep. I guess this will do for now. Funny, haven't really used this blog much for stuff like this, but it will do. Hope you enjoy and if you curious of any other thoughts I have about my own things with Sonic, feel free to ask. I'll certainly have some more to say in due time.
