Big round, lots of bottles, and lots of people to share with. A nice mix of bottles for this one leaning on the spicier side of whisky. Let’s dive right in.
Duncan Taylor Blair Athol Single Cask Aged 22 Years
We keep coming back to Duncan Taylor because they keep delivering. No exception here. Blair Athol (blare AH-thole) is a Highland distillery, once again a blender seller but also releases a 12-year to the public. This 22 year old was a nice mix of spice and candy, stuck around on the tongue for a decent amount of time too.
Feels like: Nice long walk on an early fall day.
Aultmore (ALT-more) used to hang around in the background but is now releasing a line of “core statement” bottles at 12, 18, and 20+ years. A Speyside distillery. This 18 year was an excellent choice from the line. Nice and fresh, zest all about. A bit wine-ish in the middle.
Feels like: A banquet hall.

Sometimes the packaging is all it takes to convince you to buy a whisky. In this case, seeing it come stashed away in a book is all it took for us to buy it. Spoiler alert: the book was fake. Arran is an island near Campbeltown, and this line of whiskies is supposed to celebrate the rich history of bootlegging. Hence the hollowed-out book that holds the bottle. Right along the lines of an Island whisky: peaty and punchy. Heavy on the palate and tough to chew through, but in there are some orange and lime notes. Finishes like a campfire. Perfect for peat lovers.
