Drawing Auguste is a constant reminder that evolution in skill don't override who you were. If I try to apply literally any new tool or skill I learned in drawing when I'm drawing Auguste, the drawing will be awkward.
The only consistent way I have to nailing Auguste as I recognize them is to draw them exactly as I would ten or twenty years ago: shamelessly anime-teen-faced, in that exact generic proportion I've always done my generic anime faces, with hair drawn 'wrongly' in the exact way I've always drawn it 'wrongly' and eyes, nose and mouth no bigger and no smaller than I've always done.
Other characters benefited immensely from my adjustements and deviations from that mold. Auguste, though, remain as The Face all of others stem from.
All hail the short monarch, I guess. X3
