𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐅𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐋 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐄 𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐘. although promises of swift returns and visits were made, there are now duties they must both uphold, duties beyond those sworn to one another. and within the joy of years of prosperity and peace, something weighs heavy on their heart, distant and quiet yet always there. their bow is ceremonious, elegant in its simplicity. farewell, they say, for the road beckons me.

❛ this i know, old friend, ❜ the elf promises in return, resting upon their chest their palm in an expression of sincerity. their heart is glad, certainly, to know aragorn’s rightful throne claimed. to know this land of men shall be led by a man most honourable, the greatest son of mankind they have ever known. ( but here is what they do not say: i wish in my heart we might once more travel as once we did, ere came the times of smoke and peril. not for crown nor honour nor fate. but to be, just once more, naught but two hunters. )
thus stands legolas betwixt two selfish desires. the sea calls, as did the lady of lórien knowingly prophecy, his name ever luringly. yet how might he leave these lands when here lives his dearest friend who might never go with him across the seas ? no, for as long as yet lives aragorn, son of arathorn, his heart shall remain in middle-earth.
❛ and i shall cross its threshold again, and bring many tales. ❜ this time it is almost a vow, sparkling bright in the grey of their eyes. as if they could stay away for long, with this longing in their heart. to see aragorn’s legacy blossom and bloom is a gift. they would have given their life to see it so. ❛ think fondly of me, aragorn, and ere you know it i will have returned. ❜
