What broke my heart today
I came from a school where the equestrian team was horrible to each other and everyone else. When I chose Arcadia, the team was incredibly inclusive and go above and beyond the call of duty for the college community and the local community. But today, I saw a teammate of mine sobbing. One of the teammates has been starting a negative cloud of comments about each rider in the team and today, my "show big/ mom" broke down into tears - walking away ribbonless, she did what she could in the classes but it was a tough draw and a hard day but the harmful comments and criticism is what did her in. She was talking in our team meeting about keeping positive and being kind towards everyone but with each word, her voice started shaking more and more and her eyes almost instantly started swelling with tears that streamlined down her face. My heart started hurting. She's one of the sweetest people I've met and mothered me through this show and all other shows, she's kept me calm and done course walks with me and let me do my thing. To see her feel so defeated and hurt definitely hurt me. I kept holding her and hugging her and parts of the team came over a held her too. To be honest, without my equestrian team, I'd have little to no friends here and in the time I've been with them, I've become protective about their health and well-being because it is a fucking honor and a privilege to be with such amazingly kind, talented and sincere people. They laugh with me when I mess up courses and they call me up at 2 in the morning to go in milkshake runs, they work out with me and they camp out with me, they have become the strongest network of support I have here and I'd do anything for them. It broke my heart to see that one of our strongest felt so unwanted. My goal: say something nice about everyone's ride after they ride AND say something that they handled well during the class. That way, everyone will have something good to walk away with.

Catching Up with Defending Equestrian National Champion, Stephanie Rucci, of the Auburn University Tigers
Conner: How do you like your Under Armour gear? What does it include?
Stephanie: Our Under Armour gear is really nice. The best part is we get both heat gear and cold gear for the different weather conditions. It usually includes 2-4 tshirts with 2 pairs of shorts. A long sleeve shirt. Two sets of sweatsuits (one for travel and one regular sweatpants and sweatshirt). A lighter pullover sweatshirt. A pair of sneakers. Running tights and the tight turtleneck. We also get a few pairs of socks and sports bras. This year we also got a rain suit with jacket and pants then we also got a brand new jacket for colder weather that has a removeable fleece and weatherproof outer shell. Usually everything is personalized saying what team it is as well. However, if I had to complain- everything is unisex size so it's not the greatest fitting.
Conner: Do you feel like it gives you an advantage in a meet?
Stephanie: It's hard to say whether this gear gives an equestrian an advantage since we don't compete in any of the gear we receive, but I would say our gear definitely makes us look incredibly professional when we have to represent Auburn at an event. And it provides a sense of team unity.
Conner: Do you have a favorite product? Why?
Stephanie: My favorite product would have to be the shoes. They are incredibly comfortable and very light.
Conner: If you could say anything to Under Armour, what would it be?
Stephanie: First I would probably say thank you for supporting us. Second, they should definitely pick you. And third, I can't wait to see what we get next year!
