When she saw someone enter the room, she instantly knew it was him and her heart began to beat even faster than it already was. She quickly turned her attention away as he headed straight for the refreshment table. She bit her lip as she watched him talk to Valerie. Damn it. What was she doing to herself? She sighed and looked down at her empty cup, tossing it into a nearby trashcan. She continued to look down as she went back to her hiding spot. The place really did look beautiful and she thought everyone did a great job. She had to do most of it by magic due to the fact that she had stayed up late the night before putting up most of the decorations by herself. 

She shifted her feet from side to side and suddenly decided that she was going to head out early. There wasn’t a point in staying here anyways. As she turned to leave, she could hear someone shouting her last name. She stopped once she knew she recognized the voice, turning around, she plastered a warm smile on her face. “Matthews,” she mimicked with a laugh. There was soon an awkward silence as the two looked around. She shifted awkwardly before her blue eyes finally met his. ” I was wondering if you wanted to dance?” he questioned hopefully. She took a deep breath before nodding her head.

She gently put her hand in his as she was pulled to the dance floor. They weren't in the middle, but they were certainly close to it. He pulled her close, his hand going to her waist and Audrey, subconsciously laid her head against his chest. She only hoped that he couldn't hear her heart beating against her chest. Why was she so nervous? They were just two friends dancing to a song. Better yet, they were just the two heads of the school making an appearance. As they continued to dance, the song Pretending came on. 

As she listened to the lyrics, it seemed to be talking about them, but she shook those thoughts out of her head. She didn’t need another reason to worry about something. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t hear him speak to her, only catching the end of it. He must have noticed because he soon repeated.” You look beautiful tonight, Drey.” Audrey pulled away quickly to look him in the eyes. ”Thanks and you look very handsome as usual.” 

As the two stared at each other, her eyes flicked down to his lips as his did the same to hers. Once the song ended, they both leaned in, but at the last moment she retreated. Pulling away abruptly, she hurriedly stammered,” I have to go.” She quickly turned around and ran through the entrance until she got back to her dorm room. Her mind going into overdrive as she tried to calm her heart. What had she gotten herself into now?

She was so confused. Why was he so buddy buddy with Brayden again, but he had yet to speak to her? Every stolen glance between the two always ended in a glare, always coming from him while Audrey tried to reign in her hurt. She couldn't take it anymore, she was going to ask him everything that was on her mind. Whether or not, he even answered the questions or not. She knew that she had probably hurt him by dating his best friend, but Brayden was her best friend as well. She slowly turned around and faced him, she knew he was still awake even though at first glance it would seem that he was sleeping.

She cleared her throat. ” Wyatt “ she called out softly yet firmly staring directly at him. She continued to stare skeptically at him. She knew he wasn't sleeping and it hurt to see him so obviously ignoring her. She sighed and began to get ready for bed. She got up and headed into her closet, shaking her hair out of the ponytail on her way. She quickly changed into her shorts and tank, slipping on some boots. She figured that she’d head down to the Junior Lounge because this obviously wasn't going to go anywhere. As she turned to leave, she noticed him sitting up staring at her. She quickly turned and headed out the door.

She had reached the lounge rather quickly seeing as it was practically right next door, down the stairs and around the corner. Okay. She had used the elevator. She collapsed on the couch kicking off her boots so that she was only in her knee high socks. She flicked through some channels trying to see if there was anything on worth watching, but her mind didn't seem to be on whatever was showing on the screen. It was stuck on that guy she had left in her dorm room, but she shook it off. There was no use worrying about it. She was so lost in her thoughts, that she didn't notice or move as the couch shifted because someone had decided to sit next to her.

She quickly came back down to reality when the person gently tapped her shoulder. She turned to see that it was Wyatt, who had touched her. She looked at him in confusion before opening her mouth to speak. He held out a hand and she closed her mouth waiting for whatever he had to say. ” You called my name earlier” he spoke, his eyes staring directly at the TV. “Why?” Audrey looked down and played with her fingers before looking up to see that he was watching her intently. She was so tempted to say forget about it or tell him that it was nothing, but this was her chance to finally get what she had wanted to say off her chest. ” Do you hate me?” she questioned looking directly into his eyes. ” I mean… I mean. I don’t know what I mean. All I know is that for some reason, you’re oh so perfectly fine with talking to Brayden, but when it comes to me, all you do is glare at me and avoid me and I want to know why.”

“You’re smart, Audrey. Figure it out,” he made a move to get up, but Audrey grabbed his hand pulling him back down on the couch. ” No, tell me,” she demanded. He looked down at their hands before harshly pulling it out of her grasp. ” You don’t deserve to know,” he replied with a raised eyebrow. Audrey was sure that her face mirrored her confusion, hurt, anger, and frustration so she quickly stood up. ” I know you still love me,” she stated. ” If you can tell me that when I’m “sleeping” then why can’t you just say it to my face?”

Audrey backed up a little as he walked up to her. ” You’re asking a lot of me,” he said angrily. ” Why would I tell you that? So, you can turn me down? Huh? Why?

” Did you ever stop to think for a moment that I could actually love you back? No, you didn’t, Wyatt. It doesn’t even matter. Bec-“ She was soon cut off by a kiss before he pulled back.

” Shut up.” 

“You’re a hard person to find.” Audrey looked away from the mirror to see her so called mate standing in the doorway. She said nothing and returned her focus back to her stretches. Why was he looking for her? Why should she even care? She placed her leg back on the ground after she thoroughly stretched both her legs. She turned her head to see Blake still standing in the same spot watching her quietly. She sighed and shook her head, walking over to him. “Why are you looking for me?” She questioned, mimicking his stance. 

“We need to talk of course.”

“About?”

“You being my mate.”

“OH!”

“Yeah…So, can we?”

“Uh…no.”

“What…Why?”

“I don’t want to.”

“Well, you’re mine.”

“Really?”

“You belong to me.”

“I’m not a piece of property, Blake.”

“I know, but you still belong to me.”

Blake Lawson shifted uncomfortably against his place near the wall. Some of his friends had forcibly dragged him along to this party that one of their mates were throwing for no good reason at all. He, being one for alcohol especially if it was free, decided that he’d go for at least an hour or so until he could get a good enough buzz. He couldn't help, but think of all the stupid comments his friends made about him finally finding his mate tonight of all nights. He knew everyone in this small town so what made them think that today of all days he’d suddenly find her? 

Then why was he feeling a pull from someone among the people at the party? Did his friends know something that he didn't know? He wasn't sure, but he really wanted to find out. It was getting too uncomfortable to just stand there, trying to ignore it. He took one last swig of his drink, tossed it and pushed his way through the crowd. He didn't bother giving any apologies to anyone he unnecessarily brushed aside. He sighed as soon as he stepped off the dance floor, but upon doing so, he had bumped into another person. He narrowed his eyes and opened his mouth to tell the person off when he found himself staring into a pair of blue eyes. He wasn't sure what he was supposed to be feeling at the moment, but all he knew was that he felt drawn to her. Was this her? Was she supposed to be…his…? 

The girl smiled slightly at him before apologizing and continuing on her way. He instantly followed her out the door before calling out a soft, “Hey!” once they were farther away from too many people. She turned around and gave him a confused stare. “Yes?”

“I..think you’re my mate.”

“Wow, and here I thought that you were going to hit on me. Could you at least tell me your name?” 

“Bl..Blake.” 

“Well, Blake. How unfortunate for you.” 

“What do you mean?”

He watched as she sighed before she ran a hand through her hair successfully messing up her fancy up do. He thought she looked more natural this way anyways. “Nothing…it’s just. Nothing. I have to go.” 

“Aren’t you going to tell me your name?”

“Audrey.”

Tyler had told him that he was heading back to the school before they caught by one of the teachers. Wyatt was too drunk to remind him that he just happened to be the Head Boy of the school. So, instead he just gave a nod and Tyler sighed and left. He had told the bartender to keep sending him drinks to a back table. "Here are your dri-"

"He doesn't need anymore." 

Wyatt looked up to see who had taken away his temporary pain reliever and found himself to be staring into a pair of blue eyes. Audrey. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to take you back."

"Why?"

"Because you're drunk."

"So."

"Wyatt!"

"What! What? What do you possibly have to say to me? I'm sorry?"

"No, because I'm not sorry, Wyatt. You had your chance to come and get me back and you didn't. You just let me walk away that night! If you would've told me that you wanted to get back together, I would've said yes in a heartbeat."

"And now?"

"I have a boyfriend."
