4. Superhero AU

Neo counts as a superhero right??

I'm in love with this AU now and want to draw waaaay more of them. (Lazy me painted over a screengrab)

Hi everyone! I originally posted this for the Cybird Ikemen Series Amino AU Challenge.

Going to need to put some warnings here. There are mentions of miscarriage and some slightly graphic descriptions. Nothing gore-y, but I’d definitely say this is a T and up. And it’s very brief, few sentences max, so you could probably gloss over those and be fine.

I chose a modern day AU, during the spring time. This thought came to me when I was posting about Kyle’s opinion on life, and for whatever reason I got so gd hooked I had to write something, and here it is. Link to my Amino post is at the bottom of this post.

Exhaustion nearly took Kyle over as he pulled the car up onto the driveway. It was another long 12 hour shift, and he was ready to start his day off about 12 hours ago. The spring bloom had begun to show on the trees, flowers of different colors blossoming everywhere. He got out of his car quickly, tugging his red scarf around his neck tighter as he jogged up to the front door.

"I’m home," Kyle said, closing the door quickly so the heat of the house wouldn’t escape.

As per his wife’s preference, the house was a borderline sauna. He didn’t mind, though. He knew these odd requests would happen when they found out she was with child.

He knew that the first time. He knew that the second time.

"Nothing is more beautiful than life," Kyle said, brushing the tear away from her eyes as she held the little stick that said "positive".

Three weeks later, there was no heart beat.

A year later she was pregnant again, but they both held a bit of hesitation, hoping their little one would make it through.

A week later, she was rushed to the hospital for massive internal bleeding. All was lost again.

Kyle didn’t know why, and couldn’t find an answer to why this was happening. He began to heavily drink again, a habit he had broken with the first pregnancy. He knew her body, inside and out. She was a bill of good health. He should have been the first to know if she would have any issues or implications.

But he didn’t. And he hated himself for it.

“I’m sorry,” he cried to her one night. “I’m sorry I’m not a good enough doctor-“

"Stop it," she said, her hands resting on his shoulders. "You are the best doctor I know."

Kyle dropped his forehead to her shoulder, nuzzling her neck as he gripped the neck of his beer bottle tighter. He smelled of alcohol, but she didn’t mind. She stroked his fiery red locks as he had a drunken meltdown.

The next morning’s hangover was the worst he’d ever had.

After some convincing, they agreed to try again.

"Kyle!" she screamed, gripping onto the couch.

Kyle dropped everything in his hands and ran into the living room, his eyes widening a fraction at what he saw.

She was sitting on the floor, her back against the sofa, hands grabbing on to what she can of the rug. Her legs were wide open, bodily fluids stained the rug as she breathed through a contraction. "Stupid phone wasn’t close enough," she said through clenched teeth.

Kyle chuckled. ‘Of course it would be her luck that she didn’t have her phone when she’s in labor,’ he thought as he walked back to the entry way to grab his medical bag. "I’m here, babe," he said, kneeling down and opening his bag. "There’s no way we’re making it to the hospital before the baby comes out. You’re going to have to deliver here."

She hastily nodded as she felt another contraction coming. Kyle slipped on his gloves and a mask, and started guiding her through the labor.

Twenty minutes later, Kyle was holding a very healthy - and alive - baby boy. He took most of her features, but the few strands of red hair was the giveaway that he was definitely Kyle’s son. He handed him over to his wife as he began to clean up and prepare to take their newborn to the hospital.

"He is so beautiful," she said, bouncing him in her arms.

Kyle stopped to look at the two. He could have sworn his heart grew a million times at the sight.

"Nothing is more beautiful than life," he said, relishing in the feel of his family.
