Updating the Brief
Upon completion of my Feasibility unit, I set up a second meeting with AUB Students’ Union along with Hannah to show them the progress that I have made on the design and get feedback upon how I could further develop and improve in order to meet the brief.
The feedback that Meg (the Vice President) gave was all very positive, and she seemed very excited about the project, and disappointed that they were not able to go ahead with it. She emphasised the importance of a few aspects of the design which I spoke about. One of which was the importance of green aspects and environmental impacts as one of AUBSU’s aims is to reduce negative environmental impacts. She suggested creating a roof garden for sustainable growth and using recycled materials where possible.
She also agreed with the feature of encouraging people to walk through the space to access areas and making sure it was accessible for all with elements being useful to all courses and not just homing in on a selection. Following the recycling theme, she suggested a ‘rough and ready’ theme looking at rustic and reclaimed materials following the heritage of the building and encouraging students to be expressive.
New progress within the Students’ Union/Arts University is the development of an App which will keep students updated. This would be the perfect platform for running integrated interiors and creating a booking system for rooms.
The meeting was very useful to finalise my brief adding in some key points to work towards.
