A Wedding Date for Four Weddings and a Funeral AU

"Hi, this is Ilya Rozanov. Sorry I didn't get back to you last night but I got your messages. All seven of them. I know you're nervous, Hollander, but this is what I get paid for. Stop worrying. Your family will think we're in love. Trust me. Can't wait to meet you."

Shane gets invited to Hayden's wedding as his best man. To quench the endless nagging about his non-existent love life from both his friends and his parents, Shane hires suave escort Ilya from Russia to pose as his boyfriend at the reception, but his plan backfires when Ilya turns out far too convincing in making everyone believe that they are madly in love. They even spend the night together, but the next morning, Ilya laments that they may have "missed a great opportunity" before leaving.

A few months later, Shane is invited to Scott and Kip's wedding and to keep up the appearance, he hires Ilya to play his boyfriend again and once more, things turn heated between them. Against better judgment, Shane feels himself falling for Ilya.

Another month later at another wedding reception, Shane runs into Ilya, who is attending the wedding with his "fiance" Svetlana. Meanwhile, Shane catches the eye of famous actress Rose Landry also attending the reception. Shane awkwardly confesses his love to Ilya, which the Russian rebuffs despite secretly feeling the same.

The next time they cross paths is at the funeral of Ilya's father. Believing that Ilya is still with Svetlana, Shane has started a relationship with Rose.

Ilya attends their engagement party and admits that he's in love with Shane and only wanted to marry Svetlana for the passport/greencard. Ilya's confession leads to Shane having an emotional crisis. Rose, aware of Shane's unhappiness over Ilya, agrees to cancel their wedding.

Shane is the spoiled and slightly bratty heir to the Hollander empire (or spoiled hockey prince) who is tired of his life and being neglected by his jet set parents so he decides to stage his own kidnapping, but his plan backfires and he ends up being abducted by real criminals.

Ilya is part of the gangsters who kidnap Shane, though he's been secretly trying to get out for some time because he doesn't want to be just an enforcer under the thumb of his father and brother, and he's supposed to guard Shane while the others are away to extort the ransom from the Hollanders.

They get off to a rough start with Shane still being an annoying brat even while being held captive, with too many questions and complains about the lack of professionalism of the kidnapping, but soon enough, they start to bond over unexpected commonalities and aren't able to fight their attraction any longer. They engage in a forbidden and twisted love affair between captive and captor.

Rival Spy Agents AU (aka Mr. & Mrs. Smith AU)

"What’s riskier, espionage or marriage?"

Shane and Ilya are both working for rivaling spy agencies with Shane being a secret intelligence analyst and Ilya a Russian asset. They meet in Montreal and without knowing the other is working for the enemy, start a romantic relationship and even get married.

At first, the relationship is a cover-up for both of them (or at least they pretend it is just part of the job because they can't afford having feelings), navigating a double-life between high risk espionage and domestic marriage.

When their covers get blown and their respective assignments require them to kill each other, Shane and Ilya realize that their love is real and more important than their misled loyalty to the shady and corrupt agencies pitting them against each other.
