My answer is rather unfun lol but basically I think in terms of story rather than characters as separate things from it? What his job would be depends a lot on what the scope of the story is and his character function.

I think this most easily translates to just giving him some sort of leadership position. His entire point in TGT at least is being in power. (And also being kind of deranged about it) In pre-show days I think the most common choices were like mob boss or CEO. Which, I get it, that’s pretty simple to translate.

But honestly I think you could just as successfully make him idk Alina’s landlord lmao. He’s the project manager at her corporate job. He’s a professor and she’s his TA. He’s the managing partner at a law firm she just got hired at. I think it just depends on the story being told, you know? The main traits to preserve are that he’s something of a joyless, intense person with a lot of ambitions and a conviction that Alina can somehow help further his goals.

Also i think jon is more likeable despite the similarities because under the unsocial super serious mask of S1 he's super sweet and caring.

Alhaitham is kind of just. Like that. All of the time. We've never seen him act different, this is him all natural with no mask. Which is very autistic of him yeah but he's not everyone's cup of tea as a character

Long after midnight, Alina sits alone at the dressing table, brushing her hair. It’s custom for the Tsar and Tsaritsa to have separate quarters. And they do, but usually she sleeps in his room anyway. Neither of them want to be alone.

She’s grown used to waking to Nikolai thrashing, eyes darkened to inky black, his scars stark against pale skin. But things have gotten… stranger over the last few months. The nightmares are realer now, it’s no longer only the memory of becoming the monster that haunts him. All the sleep tonics and tricks they’ve tried only help so much. Mostly he avoids sleeping.

Sometimes he goes for long walks. Sometimes he sequesters himself away in his study. Sometimes they simply cling to each other long into the night.

She always keeps at least one lamp lit. It always gutters out before the night is through. She tries not to think about it too much. Or how sometimes from the corner of her eye she’ll glimpse shadows that seem too dark. too absolute.

She knows not to wait for Nikolai. She quietly slips into bed, and hopes her worries will not follow her.

They always do.

Well into the night, Nikolai creeps into the bed beside her. She isn’t asleep exactly, but dozing. And she blinks to alertness at the feel of his cold hand on her waist, his chest pressing against her back. She shivers.

His silence alone should be enough to clue her in, but she can feel the light skim of claws. She recognizes the chill, like he’s been out in the cool night air, out in the rain. Perhaps he has.

Sorry this took like a full month for me to get to because it kept getting buried under new asks. Relevant context is that at the time there was some back and forth discussion happening about whether Aleksander would behave any differently with a genderbent sun summoner (I don’t think he would!)

Anyway I think he’d absolutely step in somehow upon discovering an ambitious and immortal Grisha on the playing field regardless, not to mention if it was thee sun summoner. But the key word here is “some other nation”

Nationalism is pretty integral to Aleksander’s perspective! He’s going to view a stronger Fjerda as a threat, even if it’s suddenly a haven for Grisha. (I don’t know how anyone’s managing that, but let’s pretend lol. These are immortal characters, they have endless time to accomplish things) If anything, it serves his interests for Ravka to be the only place Grisha can turn to as a refuge— especially when that results in compulsory military service that they’re going to be grateful for

I doubt he’d go all bets are off, kill it with fire, in the face of a successful sun summoner. But I could see him trying to tentatively ally with and earn his trust, while also subtly trying to destabilize anything he’s built

On the more recent topic of how Aleksander approaches, and fails at, manipulation, through the bias of his arrogance, I think this is a scenario he’d go into expecting it to be a delicate situation. So I think he just wouldn’t be as high handed about it. Like S&B proper he probably sees an isolated orphan Ravkan girl, who’s being lifted out of nothing, and takes for granted that it’s going to be painfully easy to manipulate her, and to get her to do what he wants until the collar ensures things. And while he was largely phoning it in, I think it’s relevant to point out that it probably would have been enough if Baghra hadn’t turned on him!

So all that being said, he’d probably be way more careful here, because it’s just overtly much more complicated. But the long game goal would probably be to somehow sabotage said sun summoner enough that he also has to seek refuge in Ravka. Presumably with the intent of fostering a sense of gratefulness both to the country and to Aleksander himself. The amplifier enslavement plan would also 100% still be on, and probably more urgent rather than a contingency, because he could never trust a Fjerdan etc etc
