Attack on Titan Chapter 46 "Opening" Review
There’s no avoiding it though, hard to resist talking about AOT.
I feel like this manga hasn’t had a bad chapter yet, maybe I just don’t recall it, but regardless it’s beautiful I can have that outlook on it.
This issue isn’t really as engaging as the several previous ones, but that’s because those were about 15 foot tall titans clashing and this is a plain and simple dialogue chapter.
Well calling it plain and simple is a disservice; there’s a lot of mystery to talk about in this horrid world of AOT.
Eren’s rage in this chapter was particularly great. I mean it’s the typical shounen protagonist speech condescending the antagonist for his actions, but idk man the look on his face while he says the shit he says and the delivery of the entire scene just made it great to me.
Reiner shows some genuine regret over the stuff he’s had to do to humanity, which I think will eventually lead to even greater inner turmoil and eventually some story changing character development. He also reveals that he’s possibly in love with Christa????
With Reiner X Berthold and Ymir X Christa already big ships, I think Reiner just caused some rough waves ahead for these poor shippers.
He uses Christa to convince Ymir to help them, there goes my hope for Ymir and Eren working together :(
So a lot of the mystery in this chapter regarding what exactly is going on in this world with the titans and why there’s so much chaos seems to originate from le monkey face titan.
Ok I know that’s not his name, but he just fits so perfectly I can’t resist.
The chapter ends with Ymir making the decision to not tell Eren anything about anything as she presumably sides with Reiner.
We didn’t actually get any of the answers we’ve been looking for, but the angst amongst these “traitors” as well as the Ape Titan’s appearance are all big things that were at least touched upon. Lots of possibilities to go from here, i don't think Eren will accept any of their conditions, unless something drastic happens.
Pros:
Eren going insane and berating Reiner for his actions.
Ape Titan is obviously key part in story now.
Reiner using Christa against Ymir was genius and well played.
Cons:
In 40 pages, we didn't really get any major revelations or answers we were looking for, just more conformation about things we already knew about or had clues to be suspicious for. I felt like we deserved at least one answer, we've barely gotten any since the start of this show.
Final Verdict : 8/10 Great
LIKE I SAID NO AVOIDING IT
