Atticus Scamander, attempting to study in a very empty library corner.
Photo taken by Annie Wright, who’s about to disturb his peace. Circa 1976.
Dora thought herself quite clever. She had watched Atticus for a while, studied the boy from a distance to try and figure him out. And when she had made her decision, she was so excited that she couldn’t wait to see him open it. She had left it with Kettleburn, knowing that the boy would get it, along with a note.
‘Atticus,
Hello! It’s unfortunate that we’ve not really met before, but I found these for you, and thought you would like them. They’re for helping hold up your books, and they’re elephants, because I believe the elephant is your spirit animal.
Not that I think you’re large or have a big nose or something! Just-- You seem to have a stellar mind, and I bet you rarely forget things!
Anyway, Merry Christmas!

Dear Atticus, ( @notthatscamander)
Can I honestly confess how incredibly dull the castle is with no one around? Sure there have been moments but everything is so quiet I almost miss the classes (almost, not quite). It’s given me plenty of time to bake at least, and with all of Mum’s family recipes I certainly was not short for choices. The package has some of the usual Fawley gingerbread cookies, fudge, and assorted sweets - my apologies if any of it is inedible, I didn’t have my family’s careful supervision this go around. I like them but all of this quiet might be getting to my head.
It’s been good to see Lai so happy though, even though I worry about her and her friends running around the castle with some of those who happened to have stayed as well. I elected not to worry Mum and Dad about that, but I’m not sure they entirely believed my sudden interest in studying. I think they felt better once they started getting Lai’s letters and I wrote them about the Christmas market - you know how my mum gets about everything magic.
I hope everything is wonderful at home and you’re having a fanastic Christmas as well. I hear the high society are having their own shindigs too and I imagine some pretty interesting stories will come out of that. Are you going to make an appearance? I know its not your thing, but I also know that you’re friends with one of the Black sisters.
Hope you’re having a happy Christmas,
