I (We) Did It
Hey tumblr-verse,
I'm generally not a big fan of bragging--especially on social media--but I cannot hold it in any longer.
This past Friday and Saturday, I participated in the ATThack in PGH. That is a hackathon supported by att (AT&T) and ibmblr (IBM). The hackathon was conveniently located on my campus, at the University of Pittsburgh!
I went in wide-eyed, a little bit nervous, a lot of bit excited to get some real experience coding my first app. I joined a team as a token women, information science major, and front-end designer (one of the few at the entire hackathon in all three fronts).
I left as a hackathon winner. Our group was made up of all students. We used an AT&T technology called Smart Tags, which I think helped us secure the title of Overall Best App at the Hackathon. Use of this available technology, a great idea, and A LOT of hard work help us become winners. Oh, and we developed Android first, which is still considered a new commodity in this iOS-first society we live in.
Now I won't brag about what we won, but it was completely worth the hard work (plus some)! Next time you are thinking about signing up for a hackathon, do not hesitate, seriously, you will not regret it.
Even if you think you are the least experienced person in the room, that only means that you have over 50 people in the room to help you learn at least one thing you didn't before. And Trust me you will learn more than one thing.
That's my bit of good news for the week, and now back to homework and job applications. le sigh.
Have a good rest of your weekend, followers!
