their relationship is far from new at this point but sometimes it feels that way to desmond. he still gets nervous when he's about to see her, he still struggles to express himself properly to her. it's a work in progress that thank goodness she's patient with. charlie is a gift, truly, and desmond plans on doing all he can to show his gratitude for her. an easy way is the physical contact. normally des is reserved and very intentional with such things. his partner seems to thrive off random touches, hugs, snuggles, though, so it's been an adjustment to meet in the middle.
when the pair reunite at the end of their respective work days, desmond is quick to greet charlie with a hug, his arms wrapping around her small frame. "god I missed you today," he confesses as he relishes in her warmth, her smell, her energy. affection swells inside him and desmond doesn't fight it. he lifts charlie up gently and peppers a couple kisses to the top of her head. "how's my girl doing?"

At first, Jonathan didn't know what to say to that. After everything, he understood that sentiment more than anyone else would and he didn't want to say the wrong thing to his sister. "You could talk to me about anything that runs through it, that might help? My therapist always says that, I'm not sure if it's true or not. I just want to try and help, that's all."
