Few he met were willing to take the hulking pitbull-mastiff mix off of Cullen’s hands once they encountered her. Sophie, only a few years old, was a beast of a canine whose height -- sitting -- easily cleared the heads of small children. Cullen himself was unwilling to give her over to a consummate stranger, but as life dictated, he couldn’t leave his girl alone while he had business to attend to in the neighbouring city.
It was a miracle Cullen had found Cecelia’s contact when he did. What’s more, she wasn’t heading for the hills with a half-baked excuse. Maker be praised. Now as they chatted face-to-face, Sophie tugged impatiently on her lead as the pair exchanged more information, itching to inspect this brand new person who smelled like a potential meal ticket friend.
“Er, don’t mind her too much. Most of her size comes from how much of a puppy she wishes she still were. Sophie, sit,” he commanded. The dog sniffed a second longer at Cecelia’s heels before obeying. Cullen returned his attention to the woman. “I know these are not your typical hours, but I will be back by evening, around 6 or 7. Thank you for agreeing to this. Finding someone who’d take her on such short notice has been difficult.”
