Itās been a very long moment since we last heard from Astronomyy. In fact, one of his last tracks we indulged in together was his amazing remix of Billie Eilishās breakout hit, Ocean Eyes, when the star was but a budding fledgling in the pop arena she now dominates. That all changes today as the UK artist unveils Flamingo, which Astronomyy, aka Aaron Davey, wrote, performed, and produced in entirety himself. Flamingo is an inebriating sonic quilt created from lo-fi beats, organic percussion, chromatic synths, funky guitar, and a gentle falsetto hum. The single, out on the label Astronomyy founded in 2015, Lunar Surf, also delivers hypnotic hooks and a fleecy warmth that brushes up against us and envelops us wholly. Like a flamingo, this dashing song is hot pink, and a steamy sweltering, suave grooving return for this gifted musician.Ā
Astronomyy notes, āI had this idea somebody can be like a flamingo. A flamingo is very pretty, but if you try to cage it, you realize itās a wild animal and shouldnāt be contained. Itās also tongue-in-cheek and pokes fun at people in Britain, because āBirdā is a slang word forāGirlfriend.ā Itās the first song I wanted to share with the world in a couple of years, because itās got so many elements that represent me. Itās moody, itās broody, itās weird, itās funky, itās textured, and, itās also quite pretty.ā Flamingo is just the setart of a this new chapter for Astronomyy. More music and news will be arriving soon. You can also stream Flamingo via Spotify, here.Ā
