 Tate has had many secret crushes, and at this point in his life, he has gotten it into his mind and has accepted that none of them are going to work in his favor and he might as well just give up even if the person drives him crazy

 Tate’s friendships swing fast and hard. During his highs, he will be perfectly fine and happy and nice, but as soon as he feels like he’s been dropped, or not made a priority by someone he is used to the attention from, he sinks down into a state where he is lonely but won’t let people in.

When Tate gets back up from his lows, he tends to be bitter, and gets sort of revengeful to whoever it is he think messed him up. Even if things end up worse, he doesn’t usually care, because at least he’s feeling better.

This is mainly Tuff’s attitude toward his father and older brother. The two older Thorston men treat him better than his sister, but still awfully, and when he figures out how to, he is going to make them feel as small as they made him feel.

v. Love is Only Sleeping by The Monkees

She looked at me/And the emptiness in her eyes was cruel to see/Then she turned away and said,/"Once I loved, but love is dead"/And I whispered, "Sometimes love is only sleeping"

 This is Tate when he’s in a bad spot mood and emotions-wise. Sometimes he doesn’t feel anything, and he needs to remind himself that he can still feel things, even if he tells himself he doesn’t want to.

This is mostly showing Tuff’s loyalty to his set. When he likes someone, and they become his friend, he gets awfully protective. He will do anything to help out his people, even if it ends up hurting him.

Alice is terrified of growing up. She is in her twenties and still acts like she is a sixteen year old girl. She fears responsibility and having to take care of herself. She hates being alone and the thought of getting old alone scares her more than anything. She clings to Wonderland so she can see that child-like world she fell in love with when she was younger and she isn’t ready to give it up. This song captures her fear and insecurities about growing up and growing up alone especially.

Alice is a very passionate child. When she was younger, she was ten times more expressive. She couldn’t help herself! But her family wasn’t too happy with that. For years they tried conditioned her to cry less, but no matter what they did, Alice couldn’t help herself. She cared too deeply, was moved too easily, and so her tears would fall. Her sister dubbed her a cry baby and this song reminds her that she isn’t the only one who feels like this. Ironically enough, she doesn’t openly cry as much as she used to. But she found her own methods to dry her eyes.

Alice feels like she lacks imagination on her own. She thinks she is broken and that she can’t create real art alone. But at the same time she can’t help but lust after the Wonderland she used to conjure in her head alone. This song represents her dependency to drugs and how she needs them to feel like she has a real imagination. To her, drugs make her feel like she sees colors as they are and that the world can be beautiful if she lets herself get to that place.

Being kicked out hurt a lot more than Alice is willing to admit. She had spent so long trying to find who she was and who she wanted to be, but as soon as she showed that side to her family, they rejected her. This song reminds her that home isn’t always where your family is.

this part of the songs reminds vanellope of the sugar racers’ prank, in which they told her about a fake road in order for her to get lost. before being a part of the group, penelope ( who very preferred going by ‘vanellope’ at the time. naïve and sweet child she was ) was a very optimistic, innocent person, hence why she felt right into their trap. afterwards, something broke. things stopped clickling. the girl became more doubtious, careful and bitter -- it was the price she paid. the lyrics resonate with that tiny optimistic bit left inside the girl, that no matter how many times it’s been damaged, still manages to keep her going.

vanellope used to put the sugar racers on a pedestal. tiffany, francis, candice and carolina, they were like heroes to penelope. they were filthy rich, they were ambitious, they were fakely sweet and they were great drivers. there was no flaw to them, and thus, pennie idolized them. things eventually got heated, and now all the girl feels towards them is disdain. it was because of them that she shed so many tears and became the person she is today. the song, speaking about not worrying and ‘killing your heroes’ is somewhat of an anthem of reassurance for the girl. 

xiii. ) the love club lorde ━  “ i joined the club and it's all on / there are fights for being my best friend / and the girls get their claws out / there's something about hanging out with the wicked kids ”

again, the racers. empty promises -- fame, money, friends, fun, time of her life, yada yada -- lured penelope into the clique. at first, things were coming up roses, but things took an abrupt turn around torture lane and became sour. the group isn’t what they claimed to be, and penelope feels angry at herself for noticing this too late. the lyrics speak about a club very similar to that of the racers, hence why these song can be found in this playlist. 

xv. ) can’t pin me down marina & the diamonds ━  “ you can paint me any color and i can be your clown //  yeah, you can't pin me down //  do you think i'm stuck-up ‘cause I'm always picking fights / you might think I'm one thing but I am another / you can't call my bluff ”

if there’s a thing the girl prides herself in, it’s her resilience. despite the pranks and mockery, despite the struggles caused by her dislexia, penelope’s stand remains high. she’s a battler ( a person who refuses to accept defeat despite the difficulties. ) she’s a tough cookie, a forced to be reckoned with ( unfortunately, this may lead to her getting into unwanted fights ), and despite her size, penelope von schweetz has got strength to spare.

in most playlist, there is a song of encouragement. that melody that fills the hero with energy and pushes them back into the battlefield. that sweet tune that heals wounds and pulls lips into smiles. this is penelope’s. the upbeatness and enforcing lyrics hit a soft spot inside her. it may be cheesy to feel inspired by a sound, but this is the case. the lyrics glitter her day with hope when listening to it.

this fits penelope’s love for racing. she has known it’s what she wants to do ever since she got behind that wheel on that unfateful day, and even though it ended in misery, the girl discovered her true passion. racing is what she aims to devote her life to; it’s in her code. she’s not very good right now, but she hopes with all her heart that training and some contacts-acquiring can get her there one day.

The fashion industry is hard to break into. Almost everyone is trying to put you down in some way, and Carla knows that. She has had no support throughout her career. Her parents have even told her to give up and let her dream go. This song is her reminder. She has to work twice as hard and be twice as better. She will never censor herself and never let someone walk all over her because of who she is. She knows she has a gift and she is determined to to make it big. No matter what.

Carla hasn’t had many friends. Most of the people in her familys’ inner circle were stuck-up and insincere. THe only friend she ever had was when she was younger, but the girl ended up ditching her when someone new and richer than her came along. This song reminds Carla that she doesn’t have the time nor the energy for friends.

Believe it or not, Carla used to be really insecure. She was surrounded by beautiful models and the girls her age looked like goddesses. When it came to boys, she was normally the last resort. They thought she was easy because of how insecure she is. It took a few years for her to gain the confidence she has in her appearance, and once she had it, the boys started flocking to her. And how did she handle it? With all teasing and no pleasing. This song reminds her that she is not easy and she will not let the people from her past think they can take advantage of her.

ariel relates to this song in the sense that she feels like she is a liability — with her muteness, there’s added effort between her and the people she’s interacting with in an attempt to understand her. and although she’s learned to embrace her muteness, she can’t help but feel like it’s a burden that shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

and it’s peaceful in the deep / cathedral where you cannot breathe / no need to pray, no need to speak

this song relates to ariel and how she feels towards the ocean. though the lyrics are quite metaphorical, it definitely emphasizes how she feels most herself when she’s underwater. there’s no need to push herself further to make her presence known; and to her, she finds solace in the sea. it’s the cathedral where she finds sanctuary, in a sense, and when she’s there, all her problems seem to wash away.

this song holds sentimental meaning to ariel, as it was her mom’s favorite song. it was the song played at her parents’ wedding for the first dance, and she even dreams of slow-dancing to this song at least once in her life.

there was so much ariel wanted to do when she was little — one of them becoming a famous singer and traveling all over the world to share her voice. but because of her surgery, her voice was lost and there was no way she could do that anymore. until she can find her voice again — if it’s even there — all she can do is dream of a life she believes she should have had.

is there anyone that understands ariel triton more than her favorite singer, britney spears? probably, but she wouldn’t know about it. at nineteen, she feels like the song describes her situation perfectly and where she is at the moment. she believes she’s old enough to stand on her own two feet; but her family — especially her dad — still sees her as a little girl that still needs protecting.

directly after his mother was shot, bambi had only focused on his own feelings. whether he would be alright or not, whether he could ever learn to live with the grief. it had never occurred to him to think about the effect of her death on any other person but himself, because no one was as close to her as he was.

this song relates more to bambi’s personality than his life story. it’s the one that made him see that gender isn’t a fixed thing, along with personality. he listened to it, watched the music video, reenacted it in his bedroom. it made him try on different colours of clothing, wear his hair in different styles, and ensured him that his love for feminine things wasn’t something to be ashamed of.

Astrid can seem pretty rough around the edges but she loves her friends. She is extremely loyal and will do anything for the people she cares about. Whether that be listening to a vent session, being the shoulder to cry on, or planning a murder against someone that wronged them. She’s extremely protective over those she cares about.

Astrid is a loner. There is no other way to put it. Yes, she has friends but in general, she isn’t really a people person. It’s not that she dislikes people necessarily, she just doesn’t interact well with them. Astrid would really rather spend her time training and studying than going out and being social. She doesn’t see the point of letting others help her if she could do it on her own. To her the only real person you can count on is yourself.

This is the song that never ceases to motivate her and is a great contribution to her workout playlist. Astrid is above all else a hard worker. She’ll probably work herself to death if she isn’t stopped. If given the opportunity, Astrid would probably never sleep, living off of only caffeine and adrenaline. However, she has been told that this is unhealthy. Repeatedly. Astrid is extremely hard on herself, so when she makes a mistake, she often views it as worse than it really is.
