The “meta” in metawork originally refers to the word “metaphysical” in English, but I just found out that three in Yoruba is mẹta pronounced pretty much the same way!!!
It’s perfect because metawork refers to three practices: spirit work, energy work, and astral work (travel + projection + astral divination & magic).
Maybe metawork isn’t an exclusively Eurocentric term afterall...
Does your definition of metawork include dream work and trance stuff or nah? I feel like they're closely related to astral stuff and am wondering if it fits, in your point of view :>
Oh interesting thought! The technical definition for metawork is the practice or discipline of energy work, spirit work, and/or astral work. Since dream work can potentially be used for forms of divination or internal personal exploration in ways that don’t at all relate to any of the fields of metawork, it’s not really an inherent part of metawork. The same can be said of trancework because a trance state can be used for metawork, or one could simply slip into a trance for meditation or some other activity but choose not engage with spirits, the astral, or energy whatsoever.
However, as you pointed out, dream work and trancework are both very, very closely related to energy work, spirit work, and/or astral work. So I’d say, they are definitely both very useful tools and skill sets for any metaworker, but aren’t inherently metawork as practices themselves since it all depends on what the dream work or trancework is used for.
