Send me âFading to Dustâ for my muses reaction to watching yours die right in front of them.
It had started with lunch. Eating together for the first time in awhile, having had a long conversation earlier catching up. What Dahlia had been up to, how Iris had been faring... What had they missed in the otherâs life? If anything, Iris was just happy to be with her twin again.
It felt like when they were kids again... A biting remark that had her giggling in shock and scolding with a, âDahlia!â that she didnât at all mean. It had all warmed her to the core.
Dahlia had brought a bento box from home and Iris had prepared food before she left Hazakura Temple, so they had seat out with a blanket and had a picnic among the best view Hazakura had to offer.
Itâs just that... Then Dahlia started to cough. Gentle at first, then harsh. Until her hand pulled away...and Iris saw blood on Dahliaâs palm. She looked up in horror, trying to understand... Why...?
âShit... Dammit,â she swore, looking suddenly too pale. Sickly, even. Iris leapt to her feet, unsure what to do. Logic told her she had to rush off to the phone, but her emotions...she didnât want to leave Dahlia alone. What does one do...?
âD-Dahlia,â she whined, tears bubbling up in her eyes. Like hundreds of times before, falling to her siblingâs guidance. âWh-what do I...?â
â...Donât go.â Itâs all her twin has to say for Iris to drop back down to her knees, pull Dahlia close, and hold on. Their hair creating a sort of...two-part, uneven curtain to their faces. A show that had always been about them, Dahlia commanding the stage and Iris happily being her twinâs shadow.
Anything to show Dahlia that she was never alone.Just like now.
âIâm here... Iâm here,â Iris soothed, not caring for the thought of if blood might get on her clothes with how Dahlia coughed. She was there and- in a moment that would likely have Missy proud- had already thought ahead.
She was sure of each step. The way the world would work, who she needed to talk to after this and other such things. Whoever had done this to her sibling... They would pay. Pay in the way of the law and sheâd insist on only the best to bring that person in for as long as possible.
...One of the only times in Irisâ life she could claim for being so angry towards one human being.
âThis is why...you donât...trust people, Rissy,â Dahlia hissed, her voice still somehow venomous-sounding despite the effort it took to speak. That poison was...really doing a number on her, huh? Irisâ heart squeezed painfully at a memory... Was this...intentionally based off of that...?
âWho gave it to you?â Her voice is smooth, but Dahlia seems...to give a shaky laugh at the tone.
âYou gonna kill for me, sis...?â
âI canât. Nor will ever...but I will get them for you. Theyâll get what they deserve.â Iris pressed a kiss to her siblingâs head and- for a moment- freaked when she stilled.
â...Still so tender hearted...â Dahlia grumbled, but relented. âIâm not...entirely sure. There was something that...happened on my way here, though... I met someone. They looked...familiar. They bumped into me, nearly knocked me over. Thought I wouldnât realize they were following me for quite the ways...â She hissed, scowling just out of Irisâ view. âDamn...â
âIâll find out who it was. Iâll get them for doing this to you.â Dahlia burst into another coughing fit, Iris wincing at the harsh sound.
âG-Get âem... Bastard shouldnât...get away with this...â Her words were slurring. Iris held on tighter, tried to pull her siblingâs body closer. Dahlia was slowly losing consciousness, her body going slack. â...Youâll miss me...wonât you, Maggie?â
âIf nobody else, youâll always have me, Bee,â Iris managed to reply, voice choking up and tears blinding her vision. No, she...! She wanted to still...
Another coughing fit, a sigh, and it was silent. Her body went limp and was impossibly heavy in Irisâ hold. Shock made the now sole surviving twin sit there for a moment, colors blurring together in a twisted painting that had things speckled red that shouldnât be...
...And then she screamed in agony, tears blinding out her vision.
