Posted @withrepost • @badassmotherbirther . @huffpost says: ✍🏾 “California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill Monday aiming to address the issue of Black women dying in childbirth at disproportionately high rates compared to their white peers. The legislation, authored by California state Sen. Holly Mitchell (D), will require hospitals and clinics in the state to implement implicit bias training for all health care providers working in perinatal services. Sponsored by NARAL, Black Women for Wellness and other groups, the bill also requires the state’s health department to track and publish additional data around pregnancy-related deaths in an effort to better understand the issue. “ ✍🏾 A step forward was made in saving black mothers in California on October 7, 2019. ✍🏾 If we keep making noise and are loud enough, things like this can happen. ✍🏾 We were heard in California. ✍🏾 Other states need to follow suit, because this isn’t just a problem where I live in California, this is a NATIONAL PROBLEM! ✍🏾 Our maternal mortality rates are disturbing. No rate is acceptable, especially when these mothers can be helped, they just are not being heard, are not being cared for adequately and are victims of racism and social disparities. ✍🏾 We did it California. Let’s keep going and pass more bills that require impeccable care from our providers. ✍🏾 #saveblackmoms #astepforward #letskeepgoing #racismisreal #maternalhealthcare #blackmaternalhealth https://www.instagram.com/p/B3abTJ9HrXY/?igshid=jlajlgqs12hc
