“Oh, you are a blessing!” Alec exhaled a massive sigh of relief as the door to their cabin opened. Their current position was a sight to behold, upside down as they were. Goofing around in their loft had never put them in danger before, but in an effort to catch the wiffle ball they were tossing around, they overreached and tipped over the edge– in a stroke of luck, the blanket wrapped around them caught on a nail sticking out of the wooden floor of the loft and twisted around their legs enough to catch them.
Now, they were stuck, just out of reach of the edge to pull themself up and suspended too far above the floor to safely wriggle free and fall. They pointed to their phone, miraculously intact on ground beneath them. “I dropped it right after texting you, sorry if you asked for more deets! But I feel like this allows for an ‘emergency SOS come to my cabin’ text? Can you give me a hand?”
“I do not recall doing that, but if you say so, I suppose I should believe you? After all it is possible I’ve oblivated myself many times,” Atlas muses in his normal condescending tone. Atlas pokes his cheek with his tongue and says, “I do think that small fire was an anomaly, it is summer, and you know no majs and their solar mirror things, they reflect perhaps that set fire to your curtains?” He says despite knowing it was definitely one of his spell inventions backfiring.

“No, you’re doing it wrong,” The vampire walked slowly around the other woman, gaze flickering between the blade in her slender fingers and the man’s neck pulled back taut. The wounds rom her fangs in him oozed blood, dribbling slowly down the thick column while seeping into the material of his shirt. Acacia fed first, allowing the younger vampire to use the puncture wounds to ease her new fangs in. But she couldn’t kill him yet, or at least with the blade in her hands.
“You want to use this,” her cold hands curled around the woman’s wrist, where the blade was nestled in her palm. “To slit through the holes,” As the fingerpad of her index finger ran across his neck, the man’s muffled groan made Acacia smile giddily. His fear tasted better than the blood still warm on her tongue. “We can’t let anyone know we exist, hm?”

“Mom wants us to spend Yule at her place this year. You wanna go or do you want me to get us out of it?”

“Whoo, buddy. I just had a right short cry in the bathroom about how I’m gonna die one day, but then I looked in the mirror and was like, fuck, I’m still young and hot.” Alec slung one arm over the back of the chair they had just sat down in and turned to face their party guest. “This whole bash is a hoot. I gots a million more drinks if you wanna nick one!” They held up their beer to show their friend. “Ciders too. I’m tellin’ you, everyone here? Best people on earth!”
“Okay, she wasn’t definitely replaced, but there’s a lot of evidence out there! Have you seen that photo where she has Melissa written on her hand? And her total change in style! It’s kinda freaky, you know what I’m saying?”

The landlord was relentless to tidy up the landscape in front of her apartment building. Acacia didn’t get why; no point in trying to gentrify the neighborhood that no one was dying to move into. But the older man was a nut, driven and hellbent to do what he wanted. And since he didn’t bother her and she paid on time, well, the vampire couldn’t have given a shit what the guy decided to do. So he hired someone for the job, it was easy to pick her out due to the fact that she appeared out of absolutely nowhere and the scenery outside her building gradually became easier on the eyes.
So you’re the person that’s been making the building look nice? was the first thing the woman remembered saying to her, sitting on top of a public trashcan at dusk, watching the green eyed woman clap the dirt off her hands. She was cute, Acacia would give her that, but she hadn’t pictured a woman in her twenties to be taking on the job. Maybe a man in his thirties that was ripped and had a thing for digging, but it was still a refreshing surprise nonetheless.
Her name was Maggie she learned and after a few weeks of meeting at the main entrance of building to talk, they were dating. Sure the vampire had centuries, millennia ahead of her not to rush into things, but Maggie didn’t. Acacia would always come by as soon as the other finished working, ready to either praise her progress or coax her into a well earned night of fun. Both seemed to be on the menu for tonight. “The petunias look nice,” A pause. “Just like you do tonight,” she mused, heels banging into the metal of the trash can she propped herself up on as she eyed the new flowerbed. “How long did it take you to set them up like that?”
