Let me tell you a story.
My family is born and bred Lithgow. In 2001 we put spotfires out in our back yard. In 2019 our old house burnt to the ground.
Friday night my grandfather had to evacuate his family home because the Fire Services was worried the fire was going to jump to Hassan’s Walls. My Grandad has lived there his entire life. He did not want to go.
On Saturday, my cousin and her 4 kids were told it was too late to leave. They wanted Nan to come with them but she wouldn’t leave her home. They didn’t know what was going to happen, the fire was that unpredictable. The youngest was 8.
On Sunday we sat and watched as surrounding towns were wiped from the map. My oldest friend lived at Gospers. She doesn’t anymore.
I’m saying this because at the rate we’re going this isn’t just a catastrophic event. This is our FUTURE. This fire season is one of the worst we have seen and it’s only just begun.
This is what Australia will be like if we keep ignoring the clear signs that the environment is falling to pieces. This drought is unprecedented and we had our first catastrophic fire day since the measuring system was developed. More will follow.
Soon this will be the norm.
Hey @scomo it’s about time you do something don’t you think?
I lost my home this weekend. And what the fuck did you do?
