ASPIRA receives grant award through 2015 Denise Moon Memorial Fund
ASPIRA of Florida, Inc receives grant award from The Miami Foundation through the 2015 State Attorney’s Denise Moon Memorial Fund to support our Commitment to Success Crime Prevention Program. Program Overview ASPIRA’s Commitment to Success Crime Prevention Program serves Latino and African-American students who are at-risk for dropping out of school and exhibiting violent behavior. Since its inception 19 years ago, ASPIRA, Booker T. Washington High School, Department of Juvenile Justice and the State’s Attorney Office formed a partnership that has assisted more than 1,500 at-risk youth with the opportunity to regain academic and personal success.
Noteworthy Program Facts • Dedicated Youth Advisor who has committed self for the past nine (9) years  ensuring youth in program are given every advantage, resource and/or  opportunity to be successful in and out of the program. • Over the past three years, 25 participants enrolled in college, 3 enrolled in   technical school and 1 enlisted in the Marines. • 95% of last year’s program participants were arrest free. • 64% improved their academic reading/math grades. • 100% decrease in school suspensions with participants. • 82% showed a positive change in attitude toward their commitment to school.
