I feel like there are many people in this world. Who talk big game about loving and being allied with autistic people. And then said autistic people will make a social blunder. Because they have the disorder that makes social cues & norms difficult to read and understand. They do something off-putting or weird. Or maybe even harmful. And suddenly that person is irredeemable and deserving of any mistreatment they receive. And instead of talking to said autistic people about their behavior and building mutual understanding, everybody just talks shit about how annoying that person is. And nothing changes. And autistic people remain socially isolated and ostracized because even those sympathetic to us can't tolerate when we show symptoms of our disorder. And can't be bothered to create a dialogue about it or treat us as equally human and deserving of like. Respect. Or flexibility. Or empathy. Because we are subhuman.
