The first time, was just before Christmas during first year. To say that Rhett had never kissed anyone would have been a lie, but he’d never really kissed anyone. And he wanted to, just to try it. So, for a fleeting moment the two were studying Rhett had considered Toby for his trial. But thought better of it in the long run. 

The second time, was during the summer of just after second year. Toby was staying over, and Rhett decided it was a good idea to play Bloodborne. He was almost certain that new game plus wasn’t as bad as everyone said, though he’d never actually tried it. To say that the run had been a headache would be an understatement, but he’d done fairly well until facing off against Gehrman. He’d had his ass handed to him no less than 12 times at this point, and he was only hanging on by a thread. He’d lost track of the health bar at the bottom of the screen, and assumed he’d be close to death as he charged forward. However, his hit turned out to be the final blow. He dropped his controller as the cut scene started, cheering excitedly, almost kissing his best friend out of the excitement. However, he ended up cracking their skulls together. Laughing it off, as he went towards the final battle.

The third time, was an innocent game of spin the bottle at a party during third year. When Rhett landed on Toby, he considered it for a millisecond, before laughing it off and instead licking he other boy across the cheek. Claiming that it counted, of course, and it was his turn now.

The fourth time, was the end of year four. A end of term party taking place somewhere that he didn’t actually remember. The Gryffindor was several shots in, but still more sober than his companion managed to be with half the alcohol. Though he was definitely in the state of feeling “tequila makes the clothes come off”. His drunken friend was long past clingy, and for a second he thought about cutting the kid a break. Maybe he could have some fun with it, but then a girl across the room caught his attention. And decided to leave his friend with some water and a chance to sober up, as he chatted with the girl that he’d eventually leave the room with. 

The fifth time, Rhett was the one buzzed this time, at a house party just before term started. He’d convinced Toby to come along, though now he wasn’t really sure why. It was a group of friends made from traveling with his dad. They were people who’d grown up like him, and Toby was definitely the odd man out. A fleeting thought passed by about making Toby feel better, but much like the last time it went out the window when he locked eyes with the fit boy dancing a few feet away. Toby would have been to easy a target, and eventually Rhett would have felt guilty about taking advantage of his friend.
