flood:Ā One of our characters helping the other one to keep their head up
It was just another day in the Shatterdome.
Jaegers were fixed, pilots trained, and the officers went about their daily life.
And Dennis Darlington kept up the fight in his head.
He shook his head around, rattling the headset he was plugged into, and focused back on his station. With the complexās massive communications array, Dennis was listening to all marine traffic within five hundred kilometers of Hong Kong. Ā Right now, however, the one he was focused on wasnāt showing up.
"Any luck, Mr. Darlington?" Copernicus asked from his position over the black manās shoulder. Ā
"No, sir, not a peep from the KagaĀ for at least thirty minutes.ā Ā He turned around and beamed a smile. āCould still be radio issues, no other ships around that area reported anything odd.ā
Will already knew otherwise, though. Ā He didnāt want to remember, yet the memories came back. Ā
The alarms blaring, the ship heeling over, before starting to tear apart. Ā William was belowdecks, and thrown through a gash that suddenly appeared next to him. Ā
He found himself staring into the eyeball of a Kaiju, which had a third of the warship in its mouth. And then he fell into the water, and with a crunch-Ā
He rubbed his eyes, trying to flush away the images of men dying, of the large containership suddenly disappearing below the waves-
"⦠TheĀ Perry, wasnāt it?ā
Willās eyes shot wide open, and he looked down quickly in surprise at Dennis. Ā The radioman was calm, but Willās face quickly became stern.
"Just keep looking." Ā He turned to walk away.
"Sir, there would have been alerts if this was a Kaiju attack. Ā Theyāre fine, Iām sure of it."
Will glanced behind his shoulder, before walking down the corridor.
Dennis watched him go. Ā From the young manās reaction, he knew he was right. Ā TheĀ USS Oliver Hazzard Perry, the lead frigate in her class, was ripped apart by a Category 3 Kaiju, with the loss of almost all of her crew.
Dennis turned back to his station.
