At first, the figure that stood before the the nord seemed to be a man wearing some kind of headdress but upon looking a second time, Herryk's eyes widened. Could it really be the daedric prince of the hunt? The same deity that bestowed his gift to him?
Unsure of how he could greet the daedra lord, the man lowered himself down to one knee with his head bowed.
I go some into the split mind here (third section down), but I wanted to go into it a bit more in-depth, especially in regards to Shey's current predicament.
The spirit that is dominant is what helps give the flesh-and-blood vessel consistent form and shape. This is why were-forms only last so long; they depend on the submission of the mortal spirit/psyche to the beast. This is unnatural, and so the body fights it. Much of the energy expended to keep the were as a beast is due to this internal conflict, as well as the traumatic act of shifting into an 'aberrant' form. Shifting back, while still painful, does not actively drain the energy of a were because they are returning to their natural, dominant form.
If the beast becomes dominant, that is when a were goes 'feral.' Since the beast spirit is an 'invading' spirit, the only way for it to completely warp the body to itself is to destroy the mortal spirit. As the beast is of daedric origin, it has an innate advantage over the more mundane mortal spirit, if the mortal allows it dominance. This is why the mortal spirit can never fully destroy the daedric; it doesn't have the tools.
A shift in dominance creates a shift in how long one can spend in their 'alternate' form; it is not simply a case of 'mortal or feral'. As has happened recently, Shey has been 'hiding' behind her lion psyche for comfort, and thus it has become more pronounced. She is experiencing fatigue in human form, and is able to stay in lion form almost indefinitely. It is no longer clear which is her 'natural' form, and her body is having trouble deciding.
It is possible to gain a better cohesion with the beast spirit without becoming feral; it is a difficult process and it requires synthesizing with the spirit rather than treating it as a separate entity that must be appeased, placated or worked around. Fully integrating the beast spirit into the self and no longer referring or acting as if it is a separate 'other,' but rather treating it as an aspect of one's personality and whole psyche, allows for longer, more controlled transformations, and less physical demands on the body. It will also mean being more fully accepting of the instincts and predispositions of the beast mind, which can cause friction in 'civilized' society.
Shey is working toward this synthesized cohesion, but is brushing dangerously close to becoming feral in the meantime. If her extended stays and exhaustion in human form continue, as does her disconnect from other mortals, it's not unlikely her mortal spirit will fragment and fall.
