Video Game Askbox Quesions!
3. Best game you've ever played?
Well now, that's not fair! There's a ton of good games out there, with different genres and mechanics making them. If I had to pick one, though, I would say Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. It's one of the most well done gaming experiences I've been though.
5. A popular series/game you just can't get into no matter how much you try?
"Military Shooters." I'm sorry, but I never stayed hooked enough to finish COD:MW2 or Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (yes, a different series, I know- they're just somewhat similar), and I won't be getting Black Ops 2. Sure, I had some fun playing though them, but... I just got them for playing with friends over XBL, mostly. Single player seemed meh, as with the story that I saw, though to be fair I think I stopped where the "story was getting good." Maybe I'll go back and give it a shot again, but I've always thought that video games are a place we get away from realism. The closest games to Military Shooters that I enjoy are Gears of War 1, 2, and 3- even then, that's hardly a "Military Shooter."
15. Which two games do you think would make an awesome crossover?
Ooooh, a tough one. Well, as far as one that would make sense/be possible would be Final Fantasy x Fire Emblem. Both have an extremely long legacy, most of the games have their own self contained stories, and have mixes of magics and swords. Making it even more compatible, we have Final Fantasy Tactics which is similar to Fire Emblem. Now, as for a crack crossover? Well...
16. Character you've hated most? From what game?
I looked at my collection of games and- guess what? I hate to rip on them again but, Military Shooters. However! It's a very specific problem. In games, you are a character, correct? And you take their part in the story as you progress along. You learn about that character, how they act, and what they do. Though the parts I played, I learned JACK SHIT about Ramirez. Taking a quick look at the COD wiki, it seems you learn nothing about him- all they have listed isย what objectives he completed in COD:MW2- no backstory, no personality, nothing. As him, you become a puppet, a prop in a play. You're not a character, as I've noted- but at the same time, it's clear it's not you yourself taking the role instead- and that's not okay. It's okay if a character isn't characterized if you, yourself are supposed to be that character in the game. This is because the game does not know you as a person, and usually gives you ways to tell the game what kind of person you are (or want to act as) so that others can react accordingly. But MW2 doesn't allow for any of that- so we have a faceless, empty character that could be you- but isn't.
Perhaps this is why I lost interest midway though the campaign. I didn't feel like I was actually doing anything- just being another 'ol redshirt that happens to survive.
22. If you could immerse yourself in any game for one day, which game would it be? What would you do?
Ooooh, dang, another tough one. I would probably say- wait. No, no, this answer is actually obvious. A Final Fantasy game of some kind, though not sure which one exactly (as the level of technology seems to change as the games go on) but I do like the swords and magic. But why is the answer obvious?
23. Biggest disappointment you've had in gaming?
Halo 3 or SSBB. They just rode that hype train and didn't live up to it. They were still fun, though!
27. Has there ever been a moment that has made you cry?
Probably at some point... I can't recall anything off the top of my head, though.
