((A quick doodle of my Bangladesh design and Iran!

Finding references for Iranian women’s clothing during the early Medieval centuries is pretty tough, but here’s a quick doodle of  Iran Khanoom during the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum [1077 CE - 1308 CE]. Though the Seljuks themselves were Turks, their rule was marked by the flourishing of Persian culture, through arts and architecture and the adoption of Persian as the court language. It was also a period in which the Turko-Persian cultural tradition was maintained.

The brand Khordad is designed by @attar-of-rose, a UAE-based Iranian designer who also runs an online shop entitled Rosemilk [found here] with apparel designed utilizing art from Matisse and Gustav Klimt.

As for Khordad, the brand is described on @alangoo as:

“...a celebration of our rich culture, a subtle protest to Iran's contemporary social issues, and the demonstration of universal values using western/eastern art fusion in the style of pop-art.”

((just two little Qajar era [1785 CE - 1925 CE] Iran doodles showcasing some dressing styles shown in photos and paintings, as well as Iran’s thicker physique during the era. This will be a part of another post, but I like it as a stand-alone drawing too :’)

((Iran in Sassanid/Sassanian clothing! The Sassanid empire [224 CE - 651 CE] was the last major Zoroastrian Iranian empire prior to the Islamic Conquest of Iran.

Iran’s garb on the left is referenced from an image in the 1973 book Negar-e Zan, which contained images of Iranian women’s clothing from different eras, ethnic groups, and regions. They can be viewed here on Shahrefarang.

((Ask-Iran’s first [!] Featured Iranian Artist is: Bibi Agha!

Bibi Agha is a clothing line by @yassikhanoom, an Iranian woman living in Canada who “started [her] own business making clothes celebrating Iranian art, architecture, poetry, and mythology. [She] studied Iranian paintings and stories and tried to create a new Iranian folklore with [her] character, Bibi Agha.”

on the name Bibi Agha, the artist says: 

“Bibi Agha is a title of respect given to distinguished women in Iran. Our Bibi is the unnamed warrior fighting alongside Rostam in Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh. She is the hero we often forget to include in our accounts of battles won…[She] represents the stories of Iranian women, past present and future. We know that these stories are largely untold and forgotten. I wanted to communicate this reality through familiar imagery, in a way I think other Iranians will intuitively understand, and non-Iranians will hopefully want to learn more about!“
