I just realized I answered your ask completely wrong, sorry about that! For some reason, I interpreted “sleeping with” as literally getting into bed with Bum (which was another, completely unrelated part of this chapter). I guess I forgot that there are other terminologies for sex. Just shows I probably shouldn't answer asks on 4 hours of sleep and an empty stomach, lol.

So, I will try this again:

Yes, proposing sex as a solution was a form of manipulation on Sangwoo's behalf. Sangwoo has used sex to calm Bum down in the past and this is no different. However, in this chapter, it should be recognized that there is more of an emphasis (a desperation, if you will) in Sangwoo’s need to fix things with Bum and salvage what was left of their relationship. This is the reasoning for offering to have intercourse with Bum in the first place. 



I do think that the life or death experience was a catalyst for a lot of Sangwoo’s uncharacteristic behavior here. Bum almost dying as a result of his careless and hurtful remarks seemed to be a wake-up call for Sangwoo, making him momentarily try to act like a better person for a change. This would have also been responsible for him trying to heal the rift between him and Bum by any means necessary. In this case, it was sex.

In the past it has been for more superficial reasons: “Ugh, your overreacting about the murder. Maybe this will calm you down.” Or, “Your crying is going to make us late for the afterparty, which would throw off the plan. Fine, you wanted this, so here you go” But now it’s: “I screwed up and you almost died because of it. I have to make you love me again! So I’ll just give you want you’ve always wanted. That’ll make everything better again.”

So, yes, it was manipulation in it’s purest form, but it was for more sincerer reasons than what we have seen in the past. Sangwoo made a remark in Chapter 5, "The fact that we’re together made me feel relieved. And I’m even being loved that makes me feel so strong” Although on many occasions Sangwoo doesn't show outward affection towards Bum, he has made it clear that he does draw strength from the idea of being loved and therefore depends on it. So one can see why it was so essential that he win back Bum’s affection, even after his cold and heartless remarks in the chapter prior to this one.
