Hey Pandy. I have this interesting thought and since you're really good at keeping these characters Canon-level, I think you'd be the best for giving input.
Shikadai used wind style with just his hands on the windmill and it reminded me of when Baki demolished the proctor using his Blade of Wind without using hand signs, like he just summoned it. And since Shikadai was able to do his own wind technique, he obviously learned it from Temari without the fan. And it got me questioning what else can Temari do and can she mimic any wind techniques without it. And it led me to this interesting thought.
What if Temari uses the fan for not just as a reliance, but as a distraction. By relying on it, it puts on a front that she can only fight for as long she has her fan and catches them off guard as wind starts swirling around them at a gradual rapid speed. Kinda like, "You puppies think you did something? That fan only weilded mercy. Now let's get serious and start having some real fun!" And goes all feral and takes them out in seconds.
Something I noticed in sand fights is they favor trickery. They go easy to see their opponents abilities and strike when they start getting comfortable or seen enough. And I notice they all have feral sides when they have "the look" (dilated eyes and wide beast-hunger smile) and even Shinki had it. Sands are real savages. Must be in their culture or DNA lol

Haha, I think like most ninja tools, Temari’s fan serves to amplify her techniques. Most people can produce a simple Kamaitachi (e.g Mitsuki) with out the use of a fan. Shikadai, too, can produce smaller scale wind techniques. And we’vr also seen it in other cases as well throughout the series. But applying the jutsu through the fan is like speaking through a megaphone, just makes it Bigger and Louder and increases the range. Which is why Shikadai could do the Sea Dragon technique with Temari’s fan, but techniques like that are likely not possible, or at the very least very difficult, to perform on a wide scale without a medium to conduct it. But yes it certainly does act as a nice distraction too haha
