did they originally romanize her name as lico? the fandub I watched called her lico and I always assumed it was to be an exotic other worldly name in japanese :O
they didn't romanize her name anywhere at first, that was the problem
if you check the history of her wiki page, we all called her Riko, it was also what the subs called her. makes sense. her name is 'リコ' which is ri-ko.
problem is, japanese actually doesn't have an L (or R if we want to be pedantic) sound, it's somewhere inbetween. so you never, *ever* know what the romanization is going to be until they actually write it out in an official thing.
so it wasn't until whopping episode 40(!) where they had riko's birthday party and the anime itself had a banner saying "Happy Birthday Liko!"
the crashout in my friend group was insane. literal hour long argument over whether she should be called liko or riko now.
and i do NOT care mr toei! i'll die on the riko hill!!!
