Hi Bori this is the female prime asker from before! And in this female prime au Im thinking about Laurie 💔. And I mean it in the “they couldn’t get together back then because it was the 80s and the 80s was homophobic ASF” yearning lesbian kind of way. (Then again I think female Prime wouldn’t realize that she loves (at least in that way) Laurie, just considering the time and Prime’s own obliviousness but I can dream right!)
Like, I think what I like about Primelaurie Yuri is that, as a woman, Prime could be able to do a lot more things that physically remind her of Laurie (I’m really bad at explaining) but for example, she sees clothes in a store and thinks that’s something Laurie would have worn, so she buys it to remind herself of her 🥺. Or like, Laurie had long hair so Prime keeps her own hair long to be more like Laurie. Stuff like that. I just really like the idea of Prime doing things that remind her of Laurie and it’s much easier for her to keep that part of her physically as a girl than as a guy because I don’t see male Prime putting on Laurie’s favorite lipstick brand from the 80s unironically. (I’m gonna be so fr I just want to see more Laurie in DC)
Oh and there’s primehood Yuri too. I like the idea that Prime is so confused when she realizes that she actually like likes Jason, because she’s not like sweet Laurie who would never hurt a fly at all! Jason is…well Jason. And Prime is helplessly attracted to that.
i've thought about genderbent primelaurie both as yuri and as straight and i think they're both interesting because of how it flips them. not to get super into gender expectations and how it affects our relationships with others, but prime has a very specific view of laurie in how she Helped Him. or how she was His Best Friend. you can probably assume that back in the 80s, laurie was the only person he could feel comfortable being emotionally open with, because it's sort of an expectation for men that they can only be emotionally open with their girlfriends/wives (this is still the case today for a lot of people).
you could even elaborate on how prime went from being a comic nerd (often emasculated in pop culture depictions) to getting the powers of Superman (who is an all-powerful ideal of masculinity). this is a thing present in the original clark kent, with how the clumsy, cowardly clark kent is unattractive to the headstrong lois lane, but the ideal Superman is her dream husband, but like most things with prime, he exaggerates it. however, laurie is significant in that she only knew the "clark kent", and liked him enough to date him, and in fact later grew fearful of the "superman" he became. their relationship is a bit of an inversion of clois in that way.
if they were both girls, or even if prime was a girl and laurie was a boy, this would be different because of how their dynamic would change. i think the "clark" would be less of an emasculated nerd, and more of a ungirly girl with masculine interests, while supergirl is a more generally feminine character. but laurie likes the "clark kent" she has. like you said, i think prime would go out and buy and wear things she herself doesn't really care for just because she thinks of laurie when she puts it on, like maybe she wears more purple or listens to more generic 80s pop music.
sorry i went on a whole yapfest over gender. if we're talking about primehood yuri my brain turns off and just becomes goop that smiles when thinking about girls. i think something nice about primehood vs primelaurie (whether genderbent or not) is that jason is a much less overtly kind person than laurie is, but maybe prime needs someone like that now. someone who is willing to knock him down a peg.
